Well-known TV personality was ‘days away from death’ before urgent surgery saved him!

In a shocking revelation, a well-known television personality has opened up about a recent health scare that nearly led to a life-threatening situation.

As he prepares for urgent medical intervention, the star reflects on the serious implications of his condition and the impact it could have on his future.

This candid admission highlights the importance of addressing health issues head-on and serves as a reminder of the fragility of life, even for those in the public eye.

Jeremy Clarkson, the renowned former host of Top Gear and current presenter of Clarkson's Farm, has recently shared a harrowing account of how he was just ‘days away from death’ before undergoing an urgent heart operation.

The 64-year-old celebrity's brush with mortality after a ‘sudden deterioration’ in his health serves as a stark reminder of the fragility of health and the importance of timely medical intervention.

He remarked, ‘Crikey, that was close.’

While on a seemingly idyllic holiday on a ‘small island’, Clarkson's health took a turn for the worse after a swim in the Indian Ocean.

Initially, he experienced difficulty climbing a flight of stairs, a symptom that many of us might dismiss as a sign of aging or temporary fatigue.

However, upon his return to Britain, ‘sudden deterioration began to gather pace’, marked by him feeling ‘clammy’, ‘tightness in my chest’, and ‘pins and needles in my left arm’.

Following his announcement in his Sunday Times column, Clarkson provided an additional update regarding his health.

‘I'm very grateful to everyone who sent supportive messages, but I'm fine,’ Clarkson assured.

‘I just have to not do any manual labour or dishwasher emptying for the next four years. At least, I think that's what the doctor said.’

The recent tragic passing of Alex Salmond due to a massive heart attack prompted the motoring journalist to consult his general practitioner.

In his column for The Sunday Times, Clarkson expressed that he felt ‘mostly dead’ after a brief swim at the beach, then spent the remainder of his holiday on a tropical island, enjoying cheese and wine.

However, it wasn't until he returned to Britain and was loading 30 pigs onto a ‘slaughterhouse school bus’ that he experienced pins and needles in his left arm.

He was then transported by ambulance to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, where a heart attack was ruled out following an electrocardiogram (ECG), blood tests, and X-rays.

After additional examinations, he reported that he was taken to an ‘operating theatre’ on Wednesday, where doctors warned he might be ‘days away’ from death.

During the procedure, a stent was placed to keep his arteries open, enhancing blood flow to his heart and alleviating his chest pain. A stent is a wire mesh tube that supports the arteries.

To open the narrowed artery, the surgeon may perform an angioplasty, which involves making a small incision in the patient's arm or leg and threading a wire with an attached deflated balloon into the coronary arteries.

Reflecting on what he termed the ‘wearisome effects of growing old’, Clarkson said, ‘It seems that of the arteries feeding my heart with nourishing blood, one was completely blocked and the second of three was heading that way.’

He mentioned that a stent, which can save lives and prevent future heart attacks by enhancing blood flow to the heart, was inserted in approximately two hours.

‘It wasn't especially painful. Just odd,’ the journalist shared.

Clarkson ended by expressing curiosity about ‘what water tastes like and if it's possible to make celery interesting’, suggesting he might be contemplating reducing his meat consumption following the health scare.

Fans expressed their concerns a few days ago when the veteran TV presenter shared a post on social media showing what looked like a surgical plaster.

‘How'd you hurt your wrist, Jezza?’ one asked, while another remarked that the ‘wrist injury is worrying’.

Several days ago, Clarkson posted stunning photos on social media of ‘nine sunsets from an amazing holiday,’ featuring waves crashing onto a sun-drenched sandy beach.

He has also previously mentioned that he had to quit smoking after getting pneumonia while on holiday in Spain.

Last month, Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May departed from their show The Grand Tour. Clarkson has since continued hosting Clarkson's Farm, which showcases his efforts running his farm in Oxfordshire, along with Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? on ITV.

He also recently launched a pub named The Farmer's Dog in Asthall, near Burford, close to his home near Chipping Norton.

While Jeremy Clarkson's recent health scare has raised concerns about the risks associated with aging, he is not alone in facing alarming medical issues.

Just as Clarkson underwent urgent treatment for his heart condition, another legendary figure from the entertainment world has shared his own frightening experience.

This rockstar revealed a terrifying health scare that left him temporarily paralysed in his arm, highlighting the unpredictability of health challenges that can strike at any age.

Both stories serve as a stark reminder of the importance of monitoring our well-being, regardless of our status or lifestyle.

Getting Heart checks is essential especially if others in the family have had heart disease. My last heart check was in 2016 when all clear and very healthy heart and arteries. Last year (2023) I visited my GP during heart week and he suggested that we do a heart check given family history. This we did through the cardiologist. A scan showed heavy calcification in a number of arteries. I was booked in for an angiogram for possible stents. It was found that one of my arteries was 100% blocked and had created its own by-pass through a vain. Three other arteries were 90% or more blocked. I had no symptoms and was very energetic and had not noticed any issues, all the usual signs were not there. A few weeks later I was having bypass surgery. My doctor said that I was a walking time bomb. It was a real shock to my GP and to myself. One year on - feeling great and re-energised. I can't stress enough - have regular heart checks, you never know what is happening inside your body. It saved my life and could save yours.

I have a mate who had a triple bypass at 46.

Strange thing is that he has never smoked, hasn't had alcohol for over 45 years and never had a heart attack.

He is now 68.

That's a good result! When I had an ischaemic stroke in 2018, the neurosurgeon let my blood pressure rise to 210/150. I said "Do you want me to have another stroke?'" He never gave me a reason for letting it go so high. o_O
