Watch out! Popular extension cord recalled over electrocution fears

Generally, news headlines feature food recalls.
Sometimes though, recalls are also issued for household appliances over concerns they might cause harm.
Unfortunately, this is one such case.
The Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (ACCC) is calling on the public to return their purchased Jackson Model PEXT3M 3-Metre Extension Lead, rated 240 V, 10A, and 2400W.
The extension cord was found to have reversed connections on the lead socket outlet, which can cause appliances plugged into the extension to remain ‘live’ even when turned off, according to the ACCC. This is especially dangerous if there are young children or pets in the house.
This defect poses a serious risk of injury or death from electrical shock.
The ACCC advises the public to check markings on the socket (LA023A), plug (LA020E), and cord (SAA170791EA), and batch code (PO11872) since the model number is not visible on the cord set.
As of posting, only the 3-metre length extension cord is being recalled.
The ACCC told consumers to take a closer look at the extension as its model number is not explicitly printed where consumers may see. Credit: ACCC
According to 9News, the model has been sold in stores like BIG W, Officeworks, and JB Hi-Fi since July 6.
You may contact Jackson via email [email protected] or visit www.jacksonpower.com.au for more information on the recall.
Please share with your friends or family, especially those with young children or pets to help avoid a potential tragedy.
