Watch out, members – especially those who have already bought chocolate egg treats ahead of Easter!

A huge range of Kinder chocolate products have been urgently recalled from major supermarkets such as Coles, Woolworths, Target, Kmart, and Big W, as well as independent stores and online food retailers, even petrol stations, nationwide.

According to Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ), the widely popular Kinder Easter egg treats could be potentially contaminated with salmonella and must be taken off the shelves immediately.

The Kinder products that have been recalled are:

• Kinder Easter Basket 120g (6x20g) - best before dates from 7/10/22 up to and including 20/11/22
• Kinder Mini Eggs Hazelnut 100g - best before dates from 23/8/22 up to and including 13/9/22
• Kinder Surprise Maxi 100g - best before dates from 23/8/22 up to and including 13/9/22
• Kinder Surprise Maxi Natoons 100g - best before dates from 23/8/22 up to and including 13/9/22

The Kinder Surprise 20g single and three-pack eggs in pink, white and blue are not affected, according to the food safety authority.

The manufacturer, Ferrero Australia Pty. Ltd, also clarified that other Ferrero and Kinder products are not affected by the contamination.

Earlier this week, over a hundred cases of salmonella contamination had been reported across Europe, with “specific chocolate products” identified as the likely cause, the European Food Safety Authority said in a statement.

Most of the cases were found in Britain, among children under 10 years old.

“We deeply regret this matter and would like to thank authorities for the ongoing collaboration and recommendations,” said a spokesperson for Ferrero, adding that the company has replaced the filter and stepped up its quality checks at the factory.

The urgent recall here in Australia is a response to the recent outbreak in Europe.

"Consumers should not eat this product and should return the products to the place of purchase for a full refund," FSANZ advised.

"Any consumers concerned about their health should seek medical advice."

Although the one I had bought wasn’t recalled here in Australia, I returned as it was recalled in the UK ( the kinder bunny house). I would never forgiven myself had my grandson eaten and gotten sick.

Why are these manufacturers,allowed to get away with this in one of the most over governed Countries in the world, park on a nature strip, and you would be called public enemy number one . But produce that is toxic and could harm Families, get a slap on the wrist.
