A popular cheese sold in supermarkets across Australia has been recalled due to fears of microbial contamination.
The cheese in question is L’Artisan Organic Marcel, which is manufactured by Mortlake Organic Dairy.
According to the report made by Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ), the product has been available for sale at independent food retailers including IGA in Victoria and Queensland, independent food retailers in South Australia, and select Coles Local stores in Victoria.
The recalled cheese product has a best-before label of March 8, 2022, and is being recalled over fears it has been contaminated with E.coli.
If you’ve bought one of these products, FSANZ encourages customers to return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund.
But if you have already consumed the product, we must advise that you seek medical advice immediately.

E. coli (Escherichia coli) are a group of bacteria that are found in the gut of nearly all people and animals.
And even though some strains of E.coli are harmless, there are some that can cause illnesses, from minor ones such as diarrhoea, stomach pain, nausea, and vomiting, to more serious ones such as pneumonia, cholecystitis (inflammation of the gallbladder), or haemolytic uraemic syndrome.
Young children, people with a compromised immune system, and elderly people have the highest risk of contracting a severe disease.
