Watch as an Audi driver goes down the freeway at 100km/hour – in the wrong direction!

Whether it’s almost hitting another car while we’re changing lanes, or narrowly avoiding a pedestrian as they step out onto the street without looking both ways first, we’ve all had a close call or two while on the road.

But we can all agree that one of the most dangerous – and illegal – things you can do while driving is to go down the freeway, not just over the speed limit, but in the wrong direction! Not only is it extremely confusing and disorienting for other drivers, but it also increases your chances of crashing into oncoming traffic head-on.

Unfortunately, that didn’t stop one Audi driver from trying their luck recently, as they were filmed travelling at 100km/hour in the wrong direction down Melbourne’s Monash Freeway.

That's right; this driver was speeding down the freeway at 100km/hour, on the opposite side of traffic to where they should have been. The incident was captured on camera by another driver.

You can watch the video here:

Incredibly, the rogue driver doesn’t seem to mind the oncoming traffic, including a truck! The video was later posted to Instagram and went viral. Thankfully, no accidents or injuries appear to have resulted from this incident. But it very easily could have ended tragically!

In the footage, which you can watch above, you can see trucks and several other vehicles steering clear of the rogue driver as they calmly cruise down one lane of traffic. Thankfully, no accidents or injuries were reported as a result of this very reckless driving manoeuvre. As the chaos unfolded, many people commented on the driver of the white car’s irresponsibility.

‘I saw that, bloody insane,’ someone wrote. Another person commented that drivers travelling the wrong way on freeways happened ‘all the time’ in Rushworth – an area that’s two hours north of Melbourne.

Some people pointed out that ‘at least’ the driver was travelling at a safe speed – despite being on the wrong side of the freeway.

As most of us know, Australian roads can be dangerous places – especially our freeways and highways. So, dear members, it pays to always stay alert and aware when behind the wheel (or even just as a passenger). What are your thoughts on the driver’s dangerous stunt? Have you ever seen something similar? Let us know in the comments!

Loss of driver's license for life should be the penalty and crush the car.

Had this happen to me before - a car travelling in the opposite direction on the Eastern Freeway one night. Couldn't do anything about it unfortunately; hope that person did not collide with another vehicle. 😕
