Video of a mum driving with a child unrestrained in front seat sparks outrage

We know many members are parents and grandparents.

Part of that role is the responsibility to keep little ones safe at all times. We need to make sure that they are free of danger when they are playing, whether it be outside or inside the house.

Even now that they are adults, we're still concerned about their welfare and we often make sure that we update ourselves on their whereabouts.

Keeping this in mind, many social media users were left shocked after a clip showing a toddler unrestrained in the front passenger seat of a car speeding on a highway surfaced online.

The video also featured a woman, presumably, the mum, who was driving a Hyundai i20 and was allegedly not attempting to control the movements of the young girl.

The person who uploaded the video on TikTok claimed to have captured it while seated in the passenger side of another moving vehicle on the highway.

The caption, which included the hashtag #momoftheyear, read: 'No seat belt on the child in the front wtf [what the f***].'

Many users noted that the child was sitting forward in her seat that was close enough to lean on the dashboard — a position that could be fatal for the girl if the car is caught up in an accident.

One user wrote: 'Even if she brakes a little suddenly that kid’s going to smack her face in the dash. How could she put her at risk like this?'

However, several people hypothesised that the youngster might have unbuckled herself from the vehicle seat, rendering the driver helpless to keep her in the seat until she could find a secure location to pull over.

The video has since then been deleted from the social media platform.

While we do not know the side of the woman in the clip, we still recommend ensuring that your grandkids are buckled up properly whenever they hit the road with you or their parents. After all, we never know when accidents can happen.

Do you have a grandkid? If so, have you ever taken them on a road trip? What was your experience like? Do you have any tips that you would recommend to those who are looking to keep their grandkids safe while driving? Please tell us about it in the comments.

Sorry children under 12 are not allowed to travel in the front seat.

She should have pulled over

My daughter had her daughter and niece in the car in car seats they were both 4. Her niece took her seat belt off just as police drove by and saw her do it.

A few minutes later they pulled her over to say the girl was unrestrained, they admitted they saw her unrestrain herself, but my daughter still copped a fine and she is to strict with seatbelts.

Anyone letting her child be in the front seat , no seatbelt and carrying on and not pulling over should have instant cancellation of their licence and a heavy fine.

If you are going on a road trip with kids.

1. Make sure they are not over tired.

2. Have snacks on hand.

3. Portable DVD player works magic.

4. What about an old fashioned sing along

This is one of those situations where a little white lie goes a long way. I used to tell my kids that the car wouldn't go if they weren't buckled in and would stop if they unbuckled. By the time they were old enough to not believe me anymore they were old enough to be aware of the hazards.:) I also used to let the sun glint off of the diamonds in my engagement ring and make little rainbows on the roof of the car. We told the kids that they were the Safe Travelling Fairies who had come for the ride and to make sure we got to our destination safely, This myth was blown away the year my daughter bought me a crystal to hang in the car with a note that read "may the safe travelling fairies always be with you";)
