Useless Social Norms

Ever had that urge to remove that irritating boogie from your nose? Do you duck out of sight to extract the offending crusty critter from your nostril?

Have you ever wondered what the reason is to take such evasive action? Well, to put it simply, there is no valid reason. The worst you could do is to scratch the inside of your nostril and make it bleed. That's no big deal is it, unless you're a haemophiliac.

Some nuffie aristocrat, a few hundred years ago who had waaaay to much time on his or her hands, decided to make such reactions to a human occurrence akin to a crime. If I've got an itchy nose, I'll scratch it. Same goes for my backside and nuts, armpits....the list goes on.

When we were young and innocent little things, our parents would pull us up when exhibiting such "behaviour". The catch cry of parents across Australia was "Stop that...it's dirty!" Dirty? On what grounds? Basically none. So we all have been societally conditioned by some nobody all those years ago because they said so.

I will draw the line at those individuals who hack up a glob of green goo from the depths of their lungs and throat and promptly deposit it on the footpath for all to see and potentially tread in. There are understandably some health issues which can arise from these actions.

So, what's your opinion in the subject of perceived social norms? Are they worth it? Please discuss.

Good man taking in a stray! My last cat was in a litter of three strays about 4 weeks old. I took another and gave the third to a friend. I picked up the black and white male and he stuck a claw between my nail and finger. Hurt like hell so I called him Feisty. His sister was always exploring and getting herself into trouble. She was called Dora. And that was her demise. Torn up by two dogs after slipping off a fence. And $1400 later in vet bills, she couldn't be saved. The most loving of cats I've owned - she used to jump on my shoulder (no claws) and lick my hair. RIP Dora and Feisty. ❤️❤️
