Urgent recalls of Tempo Milk bottles and Heatstrip remote announced: Are you in danger?

During your weekly grocery shopping, you may have picked up a bottle of milk or even a heater for your home. If you did, you might want to read this important notice.

Your safety is our top priority, which is why we want to alert you to two urgent recalls. Please be aware that Tempo Milk bottles and Heatstrip remotes have been recalled due to safety concerns.

A potentially dangerous strain of the bacteria E. coli has been found in Tempo brand milk bottles sold at Coles and Woolworths, prompting an urgent recall by the producer.

The recall applies to the two-litre fresh full cream milk and light 2.5 per cent 2 litres with use-by dates of October 31 and November 2. The recall also applies to skim milk zero per cent in 2-litre bottles with a use-by date of October 31.

Food Standards Australia issued the recall notice after detecting microbial contamination of E. coli, a pathogenic strain that can cause diarrhoea, food poisoning and other serious illnesses.

Consumers who purchased the recalled milk bottles should stop consumption immediately. It is advised to return the affected products to the place of purchase for a full cash refund.

If already consumed, please seek medical advice from your trusted general practitioner (GP).

Checking your fridge at home is advised, too. Look for Tempo milk bottles with use-by dates that exactly match those affected. When in doubt, play it safe and just throw it out. Your family's health is too important to gamble.

For more details, customers may contact Tempo Foods at +613 95880200 or visit their website at www.tempofoods.com.au.

For the second product recall: a potentially deadly defect has been discovered in the remotes on some models of Heatstrip outdoor heaters—putting children's safety at risk.

Thermofilm has urgently recalled the remote controls of 13 models of Heatstrip heaters sold in Bunnings. The remotes contain button batteries that aren’t secured adequately. This poses a hazard, especially if a child were to access them, as they could easily swallow the batteries.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission’s (ACCC) Product Safety recall stated: ‘There is a risk of choking, severe internal burn injuries or death to young children if they gain access to the button/coin batteries and swallow or place them inside their body.’

This troubling defect was identified across these 13 Heatstrip models:

  1. THG2400BA
  2. THG3200BA
  3. THH2400AA
  4. THH2400AR
  5. THH3200AA
  6. THH3200AR
  7. THX2400DCR
  8. THX3600DCR
  9. THB2200BA
  10. THB3200BA
  11. TG2200RB
  12. TF2200RA
  13. TF3000RA
If you have one of these heaters at home, stop using it immediately and inspect the remote. Look for loose or incomplete plastic casing around the battery compartment allowing battery access. Then, check the model number against the recall list.

If your model is affected, contact Thermofilm as soon as possible for details on returning the remote to receive a replacement free of charge. You may contact them via phone at 1300 014 389 or email [email protected].

Do not let children anywhere near the defective remote in the meantime.
