Urgent recall: Popular heater poses severe burn and fire risks—check yours Now!

In the midst of the cooler months, many Australians rely on heaters to keep their homes warm and cosy.

However, a recent safety alert has been issued that could affect many households across the country.

A popular heater, which has been sold in stores nationwide, is being urgently recalled due to a risk of causing ‘serious burn injury’ and potential property damage.

The recall concerns two models of fan heaters distributed by Olimpia Splendid Australia, which have been available for purchase from July 2019 to June 2024.

These products have been a common sight in many homes for five years, but they are now recognised as a fire hazard, prompting immediate action from Product Safety Australia and Energy Safe Victoria.

The models in question are the Caldo Relax with the code number 99316 and the Caldo Whisper with the code number VH-2000.

These heaters have been sold at major retailers such as Harvey Norman, Good Guys, Bi-Rite Electrical, and Betta Electrical/Home Living, as well as smaller stores and some independent retailers across Australia.

‘This product does not comply with the relevant electrical standard. The heater may overheat and catch fire,’ the recall notice stated.

‘There is a risk of serious burn injury and property damage if the heater overheats and catches fire.’

If you own one of these heaters, it is crucial to unplug it and refrain from using it under any circumstances. The potential for overheating and fire is not worth the risk to your safety or your property.

For those affected by the recall, there is a silver lining. Consumers are entitled to a full refund when they return the item to the store where it was purchased.

This means that while the inconvenience of finding a new heater may be present, you will not be left out of pocket for the faulty product.

For a full list of retailers that sold these heaters, you can visit the Product Safety Australia website.

There, you will also find more detailed information about the recall and instructions on how to proceed if you have one of the affected models.

Remember, staying warm should never come at the cost of your safety. Check your heaters, and let's keep our homes safe and snug without any unwelcome surprises.

In light of recent product recalls, Australians are urged to remain vigilant about the safety of their household items.

The recall of these popular heaters due to fire hazards follows another recent warning concerning a widely used kitchen appliance.

These incidents underscore the importance of staying informed about potential risks associated with everyday products and taking prompt action to ensure safety.
