Urgent recall issued for fire-hazard LED lights sold at Bunnings - take note!

Who doesn’t love spending time at Bunnings browsing all the latest homeware gadgets and gardening products (we could do it for hours, really)?

Speaking of homeware, there are some household items that you just can't go without – one of which is good lighting. Whether it's for reading or general living, light fixtures are an essential part of any home.

Normally, we would tell our members to take their time when choosing new lights (because they can be pretty pricey), but this time around we urge you to act fast for your safety because of a recent recall on LED lights sold at Bunnings stores across Australia.

According to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), batches of Lagos 90w LED Slim Batten 1200mm Linear Lighting Fixtures sold nationwide and online by Bunnings from December 1, 2019, to September 23, 2022, have a serious defect that could cause them to overheat and catch on fire.

These lights have a brightness of 7500 Lumens and run on 240 Volts AC power.

Aussies may identify these LED lights by their other markings found on stickers at the back of the product, such as model number (21101/05), electrical approval number (SDC00603), and batch numbers (VR2821 and VR3821).

Hazards identified with continued use of the lights include injuries, death, and property damage.

The ACCC advises the public to immediately stop using the lights and go to the nearest Bunnings store to ask for a refund, or make arrangements with manufacturer Brilliant Lighting (in cases where the lights are hardwired in homes and electricians are needed to remove them).

Brilliant Lighting can be reached here, at [email protected] or +61 3 9765 2555.

Other products that have been recalled recently include the Jackson Model PEXT3M 3-Metre Extension Lead (sold at BIG W, Officeworks, JB Hi-Fi) and mild and pepper flavours of Murray River Smokehouse’s salami.

Members, please share this with family and friends to avoid any unfortunate accidents.

Anyone with a laser printer can give you a quality control certificate. I have even seen LLoyds of London certificates forged. The equipment failed on test.

If it’s made in China be wary.
