Urgent recall issued for a popular wooden rattle over safety concerns!

Nowadays, many stores are all about creating modern and creative concepts for products – specifically when it comes to children’s gifts. Whether it’s clothing, accessories or toys, there’s no shortage of unique gifts available for the grandkids.
Unfortunately, a local brand that was supplying creative wooden rattles for babies has recently been subject to an urgent recall.
Brisbane-based toy maker Yorie and Co. has recalled a line of baby rattles over fears that the products were in breach of safety standards and could potentially put babies or young children at risk of injury or even death.
The recall notice that was issued by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) applies to two types of Yorie & Co wooden rattles: The 13cm x 3cm wooden stick rattle and the 7cm x 7cm wooden cage rattle.
According to the ACCC, the rattles do not comply with the size requirements of the mandatory safety standard for toys for children up to and including 36 months of age.
‘There is a risk of choking, suffocation or death to young children if they continue to use these rattles,’ the ACCC said in their recall notice.
The rattles were sold nationally online between November 12, 2021, and November 13, 2022.
Customers are advised to immediately stop using them.
‘Consumers should destroy the product and contact Yorie & Co to arrange a full refund of the rattle,’ the recall notice said.
According to the ACCC: ‘The mandatory standard was created to reduce the chances of small parts coming off toys during play or after reasonable wear and tear, therefore helping to prevent choking, suffocation, or death.’
The product safety standards state that toys for young children, including any parts that can come off, must not be smaller than a certain size.
‘This size is roughly the same as a 35mm film canister. Manufacturers must ensure their toys comply with the standard,’ it stated.
The labelling of the toy must also note if the items are ‘labelled and/or marketed for older children’.
‘The mandatory standard may apply if the toys are commonly recognised as being intended or suitable for children under 36 months of age,’ it continued.
We hope that this recall will be resolved quickly and safely. If your grandkids or friends' families have this rattle in their homes, please help spread the word and ensure they are aware that it must be disposed of immediately.
