Urgent recall announced for thousands of Ford F-150 utes due to lighting issue

As the proud owner of a Ford F-150, you've embraced the power and versatility this iconic ute offers.

However, it's crucial to stay informed about the safety of your vehicle, and Ford Australia's recent recall announcement is something you can't afford to ignore.

Ford Australia has urgently recalled 4,630 locally sold F-150 utes due to a non-compliance issue with the courtesy lamps.

‘The courtesy lamps fitted in the vehicles do not comply with the requirements set out in the Australian Design Rules (ADR),’ the company said in its recall notice.

‘The affected vehicles do not comply with ADR 13/00—Installation of Lighting and Light Signalling Devices.’

This isn't the first time the F-150 has faced recall issues.

In March, a recall targeted the long-wheelbase versions of the 2020 F-150s for similar ADR non-compliance.

The recurrence of such issues underscores the importance of adhering to national safety standards and the ongoing vigilance required by vehicle manufacturers and owners alike.

If your F-150 is among the affected vehicles, it's imperative to take action. Ford dealerships are prepared to rectify the issue at no cost to you.

The good news is that, according to government documents, the F-150 has been re-approved for sale and is now compliant with ADR 13/00.

This follows after Ford Australia temporarily suspended the sale and delivery of all re-manufactured F-150s until the identified lighting specifications were brought up to Australian regulatory requirements.

To mitigate the inconvenience caused to F-150 owners in Australia, Ford is offering complimentary servicing for the first five years or 75,000km (whichever comes first) of ownership.

This offer is extended to those who had received or signed contracts for their ute by 6 May 2024, and it significantly improves upon the existing four-year/60,000km service program.

The F-150's journey in Australia has been rocky since its local rollout began in December 2023, with this being the fourth recall.

Previous recalls included a steering fault that prompted owners to stop driving immediately and a clock spring defect affecting the driver’s airbag functionality.

It's worth noting that Ford’s Thai-based partner RMA Automotive handles the F-150's conversion from left-to-right-hand drive, distinguishing it from its North American pickup rivals, like the Ram 1500 and Chevrolet Silverado, which are converted by Walkinshaw Automotive Group.
