Unbelievable hack: Change how you open cans with this 'ridge' trick

Struggling to pop open a can of soft drink without hurting your fingertips or chipping your nails? You're not alone. But relax—there's a can-opening trick taking off on social media, and we have the details for you.

Jordan Howlett, a 26-year-old content creator, introduced the world to what he calls the 'ridge' technique. Howlett's video surfaced as a response to another user's question: 'What is something you found out late in life that you should have known earlier but just didn’t?'

In the video, Howlett demonstrates a unique method for opening a soft drink can using—wait for it—another can of soft drink.

'If you guys were to take a look at the bottom of a can of soft drink, you see it has this extra little circular ridge here,' Howlett says, holding up two cans of Sprite.

'Now, obviously, you need soft drink cans to have circular bottoms because it keeps the carbonation and the pressure how it is so that the soft drink can taste so good.'

Howlett went on to reveal that this circular ridge is more than just a design quirk. It actually allows for one can to open another.

Placing one can on top of another, Howlett pulled the upper can back like a lever. And lo and behold…the bottom can sprung open, fizz and all.

Howlett says this technique is a real lifesaver, especially for those who've just had a manicure.

The video clip garnered over 8.9 million views and more than 11,000 comments on social media.

Reactions varied widely. 'The way my jaw dropped,' one person remarked, while a flight attendant expressed, 'Yeah I’m trying this later at work. I’m a flight attendant and I hurt my fingers or chip my nails constantly because of this.'

Another fan was keen to try it out, stating, 'I will be trying this immediately.'

On the other hand, some viewers went beyond words to action. One user also revealed, 'I’ve tested this. Multiple times… and now I have 12 opened cans of soft drink.'

Others found the hack to be a reliable solution, with one commenter, affirming, 'Saves my nails every time!’

Yet this isn't the only soft drink stunt that became ‘famous’.

Australian DJ Jonathan 'Skudda' Skewes, who's a regular on the radio station Magic 93.1, has also made a name for himself in the world of soft drinks.

Skewes once guessed the brand of a soft drink from the sound of a can opening. He later broke a Guinness World Record by opening 59 cans with one hand in a minute.

So now you need to buy 2 cans to open one, so how do we open the second can.

Now my idea,
All you have to do is let one fingernail grow over the end of one finger and BAM you have a ringpull can opener on the end of your finger 24/7. Mine still works fine even afer 65 years and it won't cost a cent so you save money as well.
Ta Daaaaaaa.

I can just imagine the fizzy mess using two cans would make. What a pain having to buy 2 cans, or having to carry 2 cans about with you so you have one to open the one you want to drink. Luckily I don’t spend money on false nails so don’t have a problem opening a can.

Keys work fine and so does a coin if you have one on you......no need for the second can then.
