The fashion world is abuzz with the latest trend that's not only stylish but also incredibly affordable, thanks to Kmart's new collection.
Among the standout pieces that have fashion enthusiasts excited is a versatile $20 sleeveless waistcoat that's being hailed as the ultimate wardrobe staple for creating the perfect day-to-night ensemble.
During the Family Day at the PayPal Melbourne Fashion Festival, Kmart unveiled its latest designs, and it didn't take long for one item in particular to catch the eye of the fashion-forward crowd.
The $20 Sleeveless Waistcoat, which can be effortlessly paired with a matching full-length skirt or trousers—each priced at a reasonable $25—has become an instant hit.
For those looking to complete the look, there's also a matching Relaxed Blazer available for $38.
The versatility of this collection was showcased by Sneza Jovanovic, the fashion-savvy individual behind the social media account @mums_style_diary.
She chose to pair the waistcoat with the skirt, complementing the outfit with white pointed heels and a chic white bag.
'I love the pinstripe. It’s me, and I love the tailoring,' she said.
She said that the versatility of the outfit allowed her to transition seamlessly from a professional daytime setting to an evening out.
Catherine Wringe, Kmart Australia’s Womenswear Buyer, shared her enthusiasm for the soft suiting collection, describing it as 'her vibe'.
'One of our hero outfits is our Pinstripe suit. The soft suit trend is a must-have for this season and we have built a collection for our customers to be able to shop this look at affordable prices,' Catherine said.
'The pinstripe option is available in the vest, blazer, [pants] and skirt arriving soon. It’s such a key look that you can take from day to night or wear casually with sneakers and a basic t-shirt to elevate an everyday outfit.'
The collection is designed to function as a capsule wardrobe, offering both versatility and function. This approach to fashion is something the Kmart team takes great pride in, as it allows customers to mix and match pieces to create multiple outfits from a few key items.
Kenny McLaren, Kmart's Head of Design and Forecast, revealed that the collection was a year in the making before its runway debut.
'There are 50 designers in Melbourne, and we start by looking globally at different trends and brands, as well as social media, and pull it together,' Kenny shared.
The result is a mix of capsule items that serve as staples, along with colourful and trendy pieces that cater to a wide range of tastes.
Some items from the collection are already available for purchase, and according to Catherine: 'The show this year was really about capturing the now because we wanted people to be able to see either you’re wearing catwalk today, which is always really exciting. It’s not normally (the case).'
'But equally, if you saw something you loved, you could go into (a) store and buy it today.'
