Transform a pork cut into three excellent meals thanks to this shopper's guide!

In these times when the cost of living seems to be on an ever-upward trajectory, finding ways to stretch the family budget without compromising on quality or taste is akin to striking culinary gold.

It's no wonder that a clever mum's budget-friendly cooking tip captured the attention and admiration of thousands.

Tara Louise, the social media sensation behind Smart Savings, showed a great way to make the most out of a single piece of pork by turning it into three hearty meals for her family.

The savvy shopper headed to ALDI, where she picked up a 2kg boneless pork leg for $15.

'I'm going to very easily get two meals and probably a bit for lunch out of this,' she said in a post.

With a family of five to feed, Tara's strategy isn't just smart; it's essential.

First, she untied the pork leg and sliced it in half vertically.

She set aside the first half, complete with the pork rind, for a future meal of roast pork and crackling.

Tara trimmed away the excess fat with the other half and seasoned the meat with salt and white pepper.

Then came the magic of slow cooking. Tara lightly oiled her slow cooker and added the seasoned pork, diced onion, a tin of crushed tomatoes, and a generous tablespoon each of crushed garlic, cumin, coriander, oregano, and paprika.

She added two tablespoons each of honey and red wine vinegar, creating a rich, flavorful base.

After combining everything, she covered the slow cooker and set it to work its magic.

The pork can be cooked on a high setting for about four hours or on a low setting for six to eight hours.

After cooking, Tara used 'meat claws' to shred the meat—but two forks work fine.

'This is perfect. The meat is tender. It's just over $7 for over a kilo's worth of meat,' she shared.

'We're having this with pulled pork burgers and teaming it up with some coleslaw and chips, but you could have it with nachos, you could have it on a toastie… there are so many options for what you can do with this budget-friendly, easy dinner.'

The response to Tara's recipe video was overwhelmingly positive, with numerous comments praising her ingenuity.

'What great ideas you have, thank you for sharing,' one follower wrote.

'Amazing tip!' exclaimed another.

Fellow home cooks shared their tips and variations, such as using leftover roast pork in a curry or transforming pork shoulder into a delicious ragu that can yield several meals from a 2kg cut.
