Tragic loss rocks Home and Away fans: Veteran Bruce Murray's battle with cancer ends

The Australian television community is mourning the loss of a loved figure, Bruce Murray, whose battle with stage four oesophageal cancer came to an end recently.

Known for his vibrant presence both on and off the set, Murray's passing has left a void in the hearts of his colleagues and fans alike.

Bruce Murray, a seasoned veteran in the TV and film industry, dedicated over two decades to crafting the visual stories that have become a staple in many Australian homes.

In 2023, the Home and Away team rallied around Murray, organising a GoFundMe campaign to support him through his medical treatments.

The fundraiser highlighted the severity of his condition, with cancer having spread to his bloodstream and forming multiple tumours on his bones.

Despite the grim diagnosis, Murray faced his illness with the same tenacity he brought to his work, undergoing radiation therapy on his spine, ribs, and hips, followed by chemotherapy and immunotherapy.

The news of his passing has prompted an outpouring of tributes from cast members who worked alongside him.

Queensland-born actress Emily Weir, known for her role as Mackenzie Booth on Home and Away, shared a touching video of Murray on her Instagram story, captioning it with a heartfelt 'Love you Brucey, you beautiful thing.'

Sarah Roberts, another familiar face from the show who portrayed Willow Harris, reminisced about the joy Murray brought to the set.

She shared throwback photos of the smiling technician, remembering him as the life of the party and a source of constant laughter.

'What a man! Never a dull moment on the set or on the dance floor,' she wrote.

'One of the reasons I loved going to work...couldn't stop giggling at his jokes and his dance moves. I'll miss you, Brucey!'

The GoFundMe campaign raised a significant sum of $51,622 from 272 donations.
