Tradie makes bold and 'very Aussie' move during roadside fire
- Replies 2
Fires during Australian summers are a terrifying sight. Just one spark can transform the beautiful wilderness into charred rubble, and even cities and inner suburbs aren't spared the fury of these fires, particularly in windy and dry conditions.
This is why, here at SDC, we are very proud and grateful for the Aussie heroes who take the time and risk their well-being to help protect their communities during these crises.
Recently, a small bushfire near Brisbane airport, reportedly triggered by a discarded cigarette butt, quickly grew.
That's when two tradies, Calvin Baker and Eddy Kumar, stopped on the side of the road to lend a hand. Instead of standing by and hoping the growing blaze extinguished itself naturally, the duo bravely took action.
However, the pair had no water around—the only thing they had on hand to try and put out the fire was an XXXX can rolling around under the car seat.
Left with no other choice of extinguisher, the duo bravely decided to try their luck. Calvin poured the beer on the flames while Eddy filmed the moment.
Eventually, the fire was taken out! Talk about Aussie ingenuity and determination, eh?
The moment was even captured on social media, with one user commenting, 'Pour one out to save the environment' and another feeling the heartbreak of using the only beer in the car, 'Oh, the sacrilege.'
But despite the crying over spilled beer done online, this moment also serves as a reminder to everybody: always discard your cigarettes responsibly.
Fire and Rescue NSW also says it is called to hundreds of roadside fires each year believed to be caused by discarded butts.
As the fire season approaches, we want to remind everyone to stay safe and never leave a fire unattended.
Following a dry and warmer-than-average winter across the nation, experts caution that these conditions are expected to elevate the risk of bushfires in the upcoming months. It's now more critical than ever to remain vigilant.
Recently, another alarming incident has prompted a stark warning. Rural Fire Brigade (RFS) officers on the NSW Central Coast have underlined the potentially serious consequences of one driver's 'unsafe' behaviour in the event of a fire.
They took to social media to remind people never to obstruct access to fire trails with their cars.
'Please remember that fire trails are there for the protection and safety of our community and our crews. Blocking them is not safe and could have serious consequences,' they said.
Australia's bushfire season typically spans from October to March, but the timing can vary from state to state. With just a few weeks left, preparations are in full swing as we approach what's expected to be a hazardous summer period.
