Who among us hasn’t dreamed of exploring abandoned places such as hotels, schools, hospitals, and factories?
It's only natural for our curiosity to piqué when we see a building with furniture and everyday items left behind — abandoned places are a goldmine of untold stories and can fill us with excitement, dread, and curiosity at the same time.
But the thrill can easily transform into uneasiness when you’re left completely alone, with only the snorts of an overabundance of reptiles and insects for company (then again, maybe this adds to the thrill).
Paulina Andriulyte, a 23-year-old woman from Lithuania, experienced exactly this when she found herself in an abandoned hotel in Bali.
In a series of TikTok videos that have accumulated a staggering 31 million views altogether, the graphic designer explored the abandoned, luxury hotel with her partner.
The property featured 266 rooms kept in nearly-perfect condition albeit its distinct lack of occupants.
The videos start with a before-and-after shot that highlights the weirdness of the situation.
Speaking with NeedToKnow.online, Paulina said: 'Abandoned places have intrigued me since I was a child and that hasn’t changed at all.'
'There’s something magical about these places I can’t explain, it’s like entering another world.'
'We just love going where the eyes lead without any expectations.'
'In that way, we find the most spectacular places which are untouched by mass tourism.'
Paulina was unable to find any information on the hotel, concluding that it was abandoned sometime in 2020. On the plus side, she said that no one seems to know for sure why the hotel had to be evacuated.

She shared: 'The last reviews of the hotel guests were written in 2020, so I guess it became abandoned throughout that year.'
'The place was completely open, there were no signs of the closure, no fence, or anything like that.'
'If anything, in the beginning, we thought it was a functioning hotel, as we noticed two helmets placed on the ground by the reception, so thought that someone was still in the hotel.'
It's uncanny how the deserted hotel still has everything intact — including furniture, towels, leaflets, and toilet paper. Even plates with half-eaten food on them were spotted on the dining tables.
'The moment we entered the reception, we still couldn’t understand where everyone was and that this was an abandoned place,' Paulina added.
'It felt like everyone was here a few hours ago and just left somewhere.'
'The rooms in the abandoned hotel seemed to look the same as the rooms in the other currently functioning hotels.'
'They were fully furnished, with towels, toilet paper, printed restaurant leaflets and menus on the table.'
'There was all the furniture, electronics, mattresses, dishes … there was even an open staff room full of paper documents and food left on the table.'

Paulina detailed that the hotel was in good condition aside from the fact that the walls and ceilings are now stained with mould, with some of the corridor ceilings also having collapsed due to the mould and humidity.
The hotel was, seemingly, abandoned without prior warning, and insects and reptiles have since started to take over the building.
The 23-year-old said: 'We didn’t notice any vandalism damage, it seems like it’s all just a natural decay.'
TikTok users flocked to the comments section of the videos to express their shock over Paulina's discovery.
One user sarcastically wrote: 'Those rooms are cleaner than mine.'
'I think the lockdown started and the hotel closed shortly after so the people who work there left without knowing that they would never be back,' hinted one person.
A third chimed in: 'One day people just left and never came back.'
Others pointed out that the food still looks edible so it is unlikely that the property was abandoned for two years.
One comment read: 'Two years and the towels still look clean and the snacks edible.'
'I see a lot of free stuff,' another joked.
The mere idea of exploring these abandoned places is enough to send shivers down our spine.
It’s not just the thought of being 'alone in the unknown' that gives the thrill but also the history of the place itself that would give you goosebumps.
What secrets does it hold? What could have happened there? We'll never know these answers unless we dig deeper into the mystery.
With that in mind, what do you think about the place? Do you think the woman just placed the food and fresh towels there? Or do you think it's being kept tidy for other reasons? Maybe it has tenants that we're not able to see?
