Tired of people commenting on your body? So is she—and she’s finally speaking up

Julie Goodwin had a message for those fixated on her appearance—and she didn’t hold back.

The MasterChef Australia winner has always been candid, but this time, her frustration was palpable.

It wasn’t just about the weight loss—it was about the endless commentary that came with it.

The 54-year-old cook and author recently addressed mounting speculation over her body in a heartfelt social media post.

‘Thanks to all who have expressed concern about my health. I am well and I am within the healthy weight range. My doctor concurs,’ she wrote.

The statement followed a recent selfie which triggered a wave of comments about her appearance.

‘Girl u look so different..im a chubby girl and would like to drop weight one day.. i think u could probably put 10kg back on.. bit to skinny.. but do u girl..great job,’ one user commented.

Another wrote, ‘I’m actually concerned or shocked to be honest but if you are healthy and well there is nothing to worry about. Am l correct?’

Goodwin, clearly exasperated, asked the public to stop obsessing over her appearance.

‘For those who have asked me for advice or tips, I am not qualified to provide this. It’s advice that should be sought from your trusted health professionals, not from me. I’m a TV cook.’

She continued: ‘For those who want to comment on the shape and condition of my body please, do it on your own page because I’m tired of reading it. For that reason I’ll be turning off comments on this post.’

Her message ended with a powerful plea for kindness and change.

‘For all of us can we please find something more interesting to talk about. Can we please model kindness to our kids and grandkids and can we please leave this obsession with people’s looks back in the 1980s. Peace and love.’

It wasn’t the first time Goodwin had spoken publicly about her weight.

In 2016, she revealed she had lost 20kg unintentionally, saying she had been so busy she sometimes forgot to eat.

‘It’s not that I’ve gone on some stupid, sad diet and dropped a whole heap of weight in a hurry. It’s not anything like that,’ she shared.

‘I am running a business and running around like a mad thing, and sometimes I forget to eat, none of which is healthy.’

Conversations around body image often overlook the hidden health risks that can come with certain weight loss methods.

Julie Goodwin may have shut down speculation, but many are still turning to quick fixes without fully understanding the long-term consequences.
