Tina Turner's unfulfilled desire to meet her grandchildren and great-grandchildren before she passed away

Over the years, we have all listened to Tina Turner, the Queen of Rock 'n' Roll, as she belted out iconic tunes that kept us on our feet. Sadly, she passed away 'peacefully' at her home in Kusnacht near Zurich, Switzerland, on Wednesday, 24 May, after a long health battle.

As tributes worldwide continue to pour in for this beloved legend, her family grapples with particularly heartbreaking revelations. According to a source in a Page Six article, Tina's family were still reeling from the shock of her death, as many had not been informed that she was critically ill.

One such sombre detail is that despite her fame and success, the ‘Proud Mary’ hitmaker never had the chance to meet her grandchildren and great-grandchildren before her passing.

Twanna Turner, Ike Turner's daughter from his relationship with Pat Richards, told Page Six: 'No one had heard from Tina in a while. It happened so suddenly. It's time to heal. The family really wants and needs to heal, they have gone through so much, and they continue to go through so much.'

Tina Turner was a mother to two biological children: Raymond Craig, born to her and saxophonist Raymond Hill when Tina was just 18 years old, and Ronnie, whom she had with ex-husband Ike Turner. Tragically, Raymond Craig, who went by Craig, died by suicide in July 2018 at 59 after struggling with drug abuse. Ronnie passed away from colon cancer at 62 in December 2022.

Ronnie's family includes his two children, Randy and Raquel, whom his widow Afida Turner raised. They never had the chance to meet their illustrious grandmother, nor did Raquel’s sons Tyson and Tyrese.

Because of her deteriorating health, Tina could not attend Ronnie's funeral in Los Angeles. It's a sobering reminder that even for those with incredible success, life can still present unexpected and challenging situations.

When it comes to family, Tina also had two adopted sons, Ike Turner Jr. and Michael Turner. Michael has a daughter, Tiffany Turner-Dukes, who shares three children (Marli, Amari, and Gianni) with her husband. Unfortunately, the iconic singer never met her adopted grandchildren and great-grandchildren either.

Despite the absence of a relationship with their famous great-grandmother, the family members revealed that they all seem to possess the musical gene, carrying on Tina's remarkable legacy.

Tina Turner's Musical Journey

The unforgettable tunes and energetic performances Tina Turner brought to her audiences throughout her long and successful career will never be forgotten. Born Anna Mae Bullock, it wasn't until 1957 that she changed her name to Tina when she joined Ike Turner's Kings of Rhythm as a vocalist. Countless hits would soon follow, making Tina Turner a household name. The iconic singer's career spanned six decades and included countless awards and world record achievements.

Some of Tina's best-known hits include 'River Deep - Mountain High', 'Proud Mary', 'Nutbush City Limits', and 'What's Love Got to Do with It'. Though she originally found success as a performer with Ike, it was as a solo artist that she truly flourished, selling more than 200 million records worldwide and earning her 8 Grammy awards.
