Three simple and inexpensive tips for a luxurious bedroom retreat
The bedroom is one of the most private spaces in your home. After all, it is where you sleep and recharge.
Good slumber, which is important to our overall well-being, partly depends on how conducive the bedroom is to relaxation. Nice hotel rooms are appealing for this reason (comfy beds, blockout curtains).
But did you know that you can make your bedroom feel expensive and hotel-like with a few home essentials and easy tricks?
Chantel Mila from Melbourne, who goes by Mama Mila online, has shared a few home hacks to create a luxurious bedroom retreat.
The short clip has gone viral with over 260.6k views and 11.8k likes. The content creator, known for her simple cleaning and styling DIY videos, currently has a 930.4k following on the popular app TikTok.
According to Mama Mila, there are three simple tips you can do to give your bedroom a hotel-worthy makeover.

The first is to add half a cup of baking soda and lemon essential oil when washing your white bed linen. While laundry detergent suffices in cleaning the sheets, baking soda works twofold: it eliminates bacteria and makes your laundry appear brighter.
The drops of essential lemon oil give your sheets a fresh, pleasant smell. According to WebMD, the citrus scent also has the added benefits of lifting your mood and soothing anxiety.
The second trick is tucking your sheets using a hospital fold, the same way most hotels do theirs.
We know, we know — the word ‘hospital’ does not conjure the most relaxing images. But with the technique, you can make the bed like a pro.
Mama Mila outlines it in simple, easy-to-follow steps: lift the corners of the sheet into a triangle, tuck the base, and then make ‘hotel corners’ by folding the sheet into another triangle. Following so far?
The third and last bedroom hack is all about aromatherapy. You don’t need to buy a room and linen spray to give your space a hotel-like ambience.
All it takes is warm water, a tablespoon of salt, and essential oils, which are mixed together. And ta-da — you have your own homemade air freshener without harsh chemicals that you can put in a small spray bottle!

Chantel did not specify the essential oils she used in the third trick, but you are free to choose the scent. Popular choices include lavender, jasmine, and rose.
While studies on the use of essential oils for sleep are limited, a few have found them to be good sleeping aids. Healthline warns that you should do a small patch test on your skin first, though, to ensure that you will not experience any irritation or discomfort.

How do you do this? You can dilute your chosen essential oil and apply a small amount to the inside of your arm. A day is enough time to wait for any adverse effects.
