This simple household trick could encourage your (grand)kids to clean their room

A mum in the US finally got her 16-year-old daughter to clean her room. And it only took a few grains from her sleeve.

Tiffini shared a video on her TikTok page showing her daughter’s unkempt room. Clothes were strewn all over the floor, an unmade bed, and clutter on every surface.
"When your teen won't clean her room,” the concerned mum wrote as a caption.

Feeling like she needed to do something about the situation, she brought in her special tool: some grains of black rice.

She scattered rice around the floor, within the tiny crevices, corners, on the bedside table, in the closet, and even on her daughter’s bed. The rice is supposed to mimic rodent poo minus the germs and horrendous smell that comes with it.

"Usually if her room is not cleaned in the morning I take her phone, but I got lazy this week,” Tiffini explained.

And it worked! “She’s cleaning now,” she proudly added. A follow-up clip on the same day showed off the now neat and tidy bedroom.

The clip went viral with more than 15M views and 1.7M likes.

Comments came in saying the trick was “genius” on her part.

"This is genius. Teaching your kids responsibility starts with cleaning their rooms! Not totally their space when it's in your house. Rock on mom!"

"That is crazy creative." another added.

One user even said, "I like this idea. Instead of cleaning their room for them, you're teaching them what can happen if kept unclean!!"

"Genius. I'll be going to buy a bag tomorrow!" was another comment, while a fourth wrote.

Though there are also comments calling out the mum for this tactic. Instead of using tricks, they said she should try to find out the reason for her daughter’s uncleanliness.

“I don’t agree with this. You could have a discussion with your child if she’s not obviously disrespectful about not cleaning it,” one user wrote in the comments.

“I don’t know, if my kid’s room looks like that, I’m going to check up on them, their mental health, their time management, etc.” another person added.

Tiffini later added in the comments that she eventually conceded and told her daughter what she had done, "I told her after she cleaned most of the room."

That might work for few weeks until she finds out on facebook or her freinds but good try, you should have kept it to yourself …
