Inflation has been on the rise in recent months, and this has had a knock-on effect on the prices of many commodities. This includes electricity, which has seen prices rise sharply in recent months.
This is particularly worrying given that many households are already struggling to make ends meet.
If you're one of those people who has seen a shocking (pun intended) increase in your electricity bills, then this tip is for you!
A mum has been praised for her simple tip on how to lower your electricity bill, saving her $165.
Sharing her trick on a popular Facebook group, Nicola said that after receiving an 'outrageous' quote from an electrician, she turned to Kmart to look for energy-saving lights.
Among the items that she recommended is the $35 Mirabella Genio dimmable UFO lightbulb.
'This bulb at $35 is brilliant in the theatre room…colour changing and dimmable, and [you can] use [it] through the app, which is good when you’re sat in the dark and you can’t find the remote,' Nicola wrote in a post along with a photo of her dimly-lit cinema room.
'Electrician wanted $200+ to put a dimmer switch in… [if] you want the full cinema experience [try this].'

Customers can purchase normal light LED bulbs, strip lighting, and even a galaxy projector from the Mirabella Genio line.
The light also comes with an app that allows you to configure its settings. Nicola shared that, despite her lack of 'tech knowledge,' she had no trouble configuring the light using the app.
She also pointed out that the lamp is 'brighter' than the 60-watt bulb she previously had in the room and that it has the added benefit of a 'warm white' setting.
The post has captured the attention of many group members who expressed their excitement to nab the item before it starts flying off the shelves.
One person wrote: 'Definitely getting one for my son’s room. Thanks.'
'Might be an option for one of our darker rooms…might have to get one,' another said.

Other Mirabella Genio enthusiasts contributed their own ideas for how to use the products.
'The Geniobulbs are fantastic! Highly recommend. I have them in my living room and bedrooms and use the schedule/timer function. Also, love the dimming and colour options!' another savvy mum shared.
Another claimed: 'These are great, I purchased the two-pack downlights. Not sure if your one does it but if you play music and let your phone listen, the light will flash with it.'
'We have these throughout our whole house. Love them so much! It’s really helped with sleep, having the red light on dim half an hour before we go to sleep too,' added a third.
While this tip could help some of us cut down on our electricity use, the increasing costs of living and the subsequent rise in energy bills are becoming more alarming as many struggling are becoming more vulnerable to its effects.
The government needs to do more to help Aussies cope with rising prices. This includes providing more support to low-income households and pensioners and ensuring that utility companies do not take advantage of consumers by increasing prices too much.
What can we do to help lower our electric bills in the face of inflation? Here are a few tips:
1. Look for discounts and deals: Many energy companies offer discounts and deals to customers. This could include anything from discounts for paying on time to discounts for using less electricity. It’s worth shopping around to see if you could get a better deal from your current provider or switch to a new one.
2. Use energy-saving devices: Many devices can help you save energy and lower your bills. This includes energy-efficient lightbulbs, solar panels, and smart thermostats.
3. Use less energy: One of the best ways to lower your energy bills is to simply use less energy. This could mean turning off lights when you leave a room, unplugging devices when you’re not using them, and only using appliances when you need to.
By following these tips, you can help to lower your energy bills even in the face of inflation.
