Valentine's Day is finally here - a perfect time for couples to show their love for each other and to get a little creative with gifts, cards, and other treats.
In fact, some lovers around the world are trading in the boxed chocolates and the roses this Valentine’s Day – and it’s all thanks to a limited edition supermarket offering!
Shoppers are scrambling to get their hands on a tasty new creation from Coles which has become a fast favourite.
The product in question? 'Raspberry Bullets & White Choc' cookie dough, a special collaboration between Bennett St Dairy’s famous cookie dough and Darrell Lea’s Raspberry and White Chocolate Bullets.
It’s currently available at all Coles stores around Australia - but is it worth the hefty price tag of $13?
Bennett Street Dairy was first made popular during pandemic-induced lockdowns when the eatery began delivering products to customers stuck in their homes.
Woolworths made a deal with the company soon afterwards to roll out the cookie dough in all of their stores - and now Coles has jumped on board.
The Australian supermarket giant is selling a limited-edition 'Raspberry Bullets & White Choc' dough in honour of Valentine’s Day and, with hundreds of stores getting the product, it’s become a popular item with shoppers.
Unfortunately, it’s only available at select supermarkets across NSW and Victoria as well as online via Bennett St Dairy (for Sydney residents).
James Meek, a co-founder at Bennett Street Dairy, told a journalist recently that the flavour had been the result of 'months of flirting' between the two brands, and it’s flying off shelves like crazy.
He said: 'Bennett St Dairy and Darrell Lea first flirted with each other just over a year ago when a very small run of their romantic-flavoured cookie dough rolls popped up on shelves at specialist grocers in Sydney and Melbourne.'
'This year though, stocks of the “Raspberry Bullets & White Choc” flavour are available nationwide at more than 700 Coles supermarkets.'
Several customers have praised the collaboration on social media, with one person going so far as to call it 'one of the best biscuits' they’ve ever had.
'I’ve made it very clear I won’t sell out for a paid promotion, so it will just be an honest review,' said TikTok user and foodie Russ Eats.
‘They are packed full of raspberry and white chocolate. They obviously win, nothing beats a fresh baked cookie.’
However, not everyone seemed to agree with these sentiments, with some shoppers pointing out that it is not worth its hefty price.
One user wrote: 'Overpriced, I’ll stick with my $5 Aunty Kath’s gingerbread dough while coles still have some.'
'I wanna try this brand of cookie dough so bad but the price has me,' another added.
So if you’re looking for something indulgent (without the $13 price tag), homemade White Chocolate Chip and Raspberry cookies could be just what you need to satisfy those sweet tooth desires. With a delicate balance of sweetness, these cookies are dangerously delicious!
Well, the good news is that these treats are easy to make! Here's a simple recipe for these cookies.
Ingredients:
125 grams butter
½ cup caster sugar
½ cup brown sugar, lightly packed
½ teaspoon vanilla extract
1 egg
1 ¾ cups self-raising flour
½ teaspoon salt
1 cup white chocolate chips
½ cup frozen raspberries
Method:
1. Preheat your oven to 180 degrees Celsius.
2. Gently chop up the white chocolate chips and set aside.
3. Chop up the butter in a medium-sized mixing bowl and add caster sugar, brown sugar and vanilla extract.
4. Cream with an electric beater until the mixture is light and fluffy.
5. Lightly beat the egg and add it to the mixture, beating again with the electric beater until combined.
6. Sift in the flour and salt, and combine.
7. Add the white chocolate chips. Then roughly chop the frozen raspberries and add them too, gently mixing with a spoon.
8. Using a tablespoon measure, shape the cookie mix into balls and place on a tray, leaving room for spreading.
9. Bake for approx 10 minutes or until the cookies start to turn golden.
10. Allow the cookies to cool on the tray before transferring them to a wire rack.
