This kitchen tip keeps veggies and fruit fresh for days! Are you using it yet?

As we age, we often look for ways to make our lives easier and more efficient, especially when managing our households and meals.

One of the challenges we face is keeping our produce fresh before we have the chance to enjoy it.

What if a kitchen trick could keep your lettuce crisp for an astonishing 60 days?

This intriguing tip came from a South Korean cook, Mr Rice, who took the internet by storm.

The culinary whiz shared his secret to prolonging the life of leafy greens in a few simple steps.

Mr Rice starts by trimming the tip of the lettuce stem, ensuring the head remains intact.

He then takes a sheet of paper towel and soaks it in liquor.

'Any kind of drinking liquor works, but if you don't have alcohol, you can use cold water,' Mr Rice shared.

He also clarified while cold water is an option, it will keep the lettuce fresh longer.

The alcohol acts as a preservative, preventing the lettuce from rotting.

Once the paper towel is soaked, Mr Rice places it on the lettuce stem.

He then puts the lettuce into a plastic bag. To seal the bag airtight, he used a 'homemade zipper' made with the top section of a plastic drinking bottle and its cap.

To maintain the freshness, Mr Rice recommended adding a few drops of alcohol to the paper towel every five to six days.

It's a small effort for a big payoff—crisp lettuce lasting more than 60 days.

This innovative storage method went viral and amassed over 1.7 million views.

Viewers praised the tip, calling it 'genius'.

'You're so smart, thanks for sharing this knowledge,' one commenter wrote.

The trick also sparked curiosity among viewers.

'I'm curious why the bottle lid closure is more advantageous than just twisting closed or using a bread bag twist?' one asked.

'The cap seals better, ensuring no air gets in,' another commenter replied.

This tip isn't just a one-off wonder, either.

Online content creator Jaclyn Hill shared a similar trick for keeping avocados fresh as part of her weekly routine.

To keep avocados fresh, she used a paper towel, lime, and an airtight glass container, and pressed the paper towel against the mixture to eliminate air pockets.

This method kept her avocados ready for toast all week long.

These tips are more than just clever tricks; they're a testament to the ingenuity that can make our daily routines less wasteful and sustainable.

We use a method similar for all our vegies. We place a paper towel in an airtight container, place the vegies in and place another paper towel on top and close the lid. The vegies last a few weeks to a month or more. We do the same for the lettuce except place it in a freezer bag with just paper around it. It lasts for a month or more as well

To be honest I just place paper towel in with the lettuce in a plastic container. I think the liquor would be more expensive than tossing the lettuce after four days

We have been doing this for decades!
