At the Seniors Discount Club, we're always on the lookout for savvy tricks, frugal tips, and genius solutions—all the things that pack a punch in our day-to-day lives without punching a hole in our wallets. And what better place to gather some of that inspiration than Kmart?

The retail giant has intertwined itself into Australian households so seamlessly you'd be hard-pressed to find a home without at least one Kmart purchase. It's a store that provides an array of household essentials, unique objects and bits-and-bobs necessary to maintain a comfortable home—and all at a pocket-friendly price.

However, we're not here to talk about dishes or doormats, folks. We're talking about plants!

Pursuing hobbies has become more vital than ever for our well-being. One such hobby that has caught up significantly is indoor gardening. It doesn't merely add a fresh and vibrant touch to our living spaces, but plants also come with many healing properties, such as reducing stress and improving air quality.

This has helped many of us feel less alone, providing a natural healing touch within our homes.

Recently, a Kmart shopper posted an awe-inspiring DIY project on a popular Facebook page, merging creativity with our love for greenery indoors. She creatively repurposed the store's $29 Telescopic Shower Caddy to create a vertical plant pole or 'ceiling garden'. Ingenious, isn't it?

Typically, this product is used to provide an additional storage unit within your shower. It's a space-saving product providing easy access to your toiletries, but, as demonstrated, it can serve other purposes as well.

'For all those keen indoor planters, I have been dreaming of a vertical plant pole but just couldn't justify the $140-plus price tag… Hello telescopic spring-loaded shower caddy!' she revealed on the Facebook page.

When it comes to selecting plants for this vertical garden, low-light tolerant varieties such as pothos, ZZ plants, or snake plants can be extremely forgiving and still look lush even if you don't have a green thumb.

She manoeuvred five sections of the caddy's metal pieces to achieve a suitable height for her living room ceiling, subsequently creating an intriguing plant-adorned pillar. To customise and make it more aesthetically pleasing, one can use different-sized pots or choose plants with different leaf shapes and colours for an abundant, vibrant look.

The innovative idea commanded the limelight and applause from thousands. Reactions ranged from 'You are a genius!' to 'This is the best thing I've seen on this site!' and 'Oh my goodness, thank you so much. I've been wanting something like this too.'

Many are eager to give this idea a try, while others think it'll be 'the next viral Kmart thing' that'll find its way into our homes.

Some keen gardeners even suggested the vertical caddy would perfectly suit a compact herb garden, giving easy access to your favourite herbs right in your kitchen or on your balcony. This urban green touch screams efficiency and freshness!

The project also triggered a nostalgic trip down memory lane, with a user commenting, 'Wow, this brings back memories from about 25-30 years ago. We all had these in brass/gold/copper colour in our homes.'

Being a 'plant parent' has become an increasingly popular trend, especially for those who are exploring more indoor hobbies. Much like taking care of pets, the plant-care journey can be very therapeutic.
