This genius hack removes rust from metal in seconds—and it's incredibly cheap!
Time is money, isn’t it?
Usually, that means that we'd rather pay extra to save ourselves a little time; however—and we can't believe we're saying this—sometimes, investing in some of the more frugal methods can lead to quicker results.
One cleaning enthusiast realised this when she found a genius hack to remove rust from metal using a common kitchen ingredient!
Sarah Brigstock, a cleaning enthusiast, took to social media to share the 'genius hack' she found to quickly get rid of rust from metal.
She shared: ‘Embarrassing, really, but this was the pedestal mirror that I have on my dressing table that had gone rusty from where I remove my daily contact lenses from their pot.
‘I used the tomato sauce/tin foil trick, and look how well it’s come up—so happy as I bought this mirror from M&S and didn’t want to replace it.’
The post amazed users and garnered more than 338 reactions from viewers who couldn’t quite believe how ‘great’ the mirror looked after the cleaning.
One person said, ‘Makes you wonder what (tomato sauce) does to our insides. Your mirror looks great.’
Sarah responded, ‘Probably the combination of the tin foil and the sauce. So maybe wise not to swallow tin foil whilst dipping chips in (tomato sauce)… just in case.’
One viewer asked, ‘How does the hack work?’
Sarah explained, ‘Squirt the sauce, scrunch up a piece of tin foil and use the foil to scrub the surface…’
Some people also made light-hearted comments.
‘That’s all (tomato sauce) is good for [...] brilliant job you have done though,’ joked someone.
Another added, ‘That’s a brilliant result, just as well you didn’t rush out and buy a new one.’
Tomato sauce, with its vinegar content, is valued for its cleaning abilities, especially on stubborn spots like rust.
It's gentle and versatile, suitable for everything from kitchenware to bathroom fixtures.
As experts from home and gardening website The Spruce point out: ‘Even the tomatoes contain a bit of critical acid like lemons that can aid in cleaning.’
‘(Tomato sauce), which most of us have on hand, can be used to clean lots of things around the house.’
