This dangerous mistake made by an unsuspecting Aussie will make you rethink your laundry habits

Striking the balance between safety and convenience is never easy. Many want to get the job done as quickly as possible by being efficient and taking shortcuts whenever possible.

However, these shortcuts may result in a fatal outcome, which is why it’s important to be aware of the potential risks involved.

Recently, an Aussie woman known as RabbyK opened up a huge can of worms when she shared a video of her potentially life-threatening clothes dryer oversight.

'I asked, what’s a lint trap?' she said in her social media post.

As it turns out, RabbyK had never cleaned the lint trap before, as the video showed the lint build-up around the dryer’s door and a huge and thick chunk of lint already in the trap.

So naturally, RabbyK received warnings and backlash for her oversight, with many commenters upset about the potential for a fire.

Australia’s fire season is set to be one of the worst in years, making it even more important to take preventative measures to ensure safety. This also includes minimising the risk of fires starting within people’s homes.

RabbyK said she had 'never owned a dryer' and apologised to the viewers, who were shocked that something bad had not happened yet.

'How is this even possible or even funny? [It’s a] fire hazard,' one said.

'It’s all fun and games till you burn your house down and lose absolutely everything because of a lint fire,' another commented.

'How is she still alive?...I clean mine every time just out of pure paranoia,' a third shared.

In 2022, Berowra Rural Fire Brigade answered a call from a home that had a strong burning smell coming from their dryer.

They then discovered the lint build-up and shared it on social media as a reminder to frequently clean out lint filters to avoid disaster.

Furthermore, back in 2019, a family from a small town called Murrumbateman were lounging around when their clothes dryer suddenly caught fire while it was running a load.

Promptly, they managed to put out the fire by relocating the dryer outdoors and using a garden hose.

In similar recent news, Jade Beaumont, 29, along with her husband Simon, 31, and their three-year-old son Jack, returned home from a weekend escape, only to be met with a sight no family ever wishes to encounter.

The family from the UK alleged that their tumble dryer caused a disastrous fire that razed their beloved family home while they were away.

They have lost everything in the home they have been living in for the past eight years. This included precious and 'irreplaceable' items—and most tragically, their 15-year-old cat, Charlie.

According to the firefighters, their tumble dryer, which was left switched on but was not in use, was likely to blame for the fire. However, the exact reason remains unknown.

Evidently did not read the dryers operation manual, my new dryer strongly recommends cleaning lint filter every time it is used, it is amazing how much lint it collects each time it is used.

This would also suggest that we should switch the machines off at the wall when they are not in use. I haven't been doing this, but I should. I've lived in this house for forty years and it's been so subject to misfortune - although not fire, thankfully. But, oh, the tales I could tell. Chloe and I might write about it - give you all a bit of a chuckle.😊

I thought everyone knew about dryer lint filters.
My dryer filter is cleaned after every use. That's why I always buy the dryers with a filter that just pops off the front of a dryer.
My mum had one some years ago that was in the back of the drum that had to be taken out using a screwdriver. The first thing I did after finding out about that was to buy her another dryer. Very scary.

I switch my dryer off when not in use. Sometimes wondering why it's not working?

I clean my filter after every use but there was a build up of lint in the gap that the filter sits in. I found a brush on Temu that is made for exactly this. I was horrified to see how much it got out even though I thought I’d cleaned this too

For starters, dryers chew up the power like nothing on earth... hence mine ended up on the dump. Don't believe me... then get one of those gismos that you put between the plug and the appliance and measure the usage.... surprise yourself....
