This couple's genius budget wedding trick saved them a fortune: Find out their secret!

Planning a wedding is no easy task—and if you’re on a budget, it can be even more of a challenge.

But one couple has revealed their genius money-saving technique that sparked praise from thousands of savvy shoppers online.

The couple drove 80 minutes to their nearest ALDI store to grab USD $3.35 (AUD $5.20) bottles of award-winning wine–clearing the shelves of the Winking Owl label in US stores. Fret not, Australians, ALDI’s Precious Earth range is available from AUD $3.45.

They shared a photo of their haul on social media with the caption, ‘Not [aisle] of shame, but we drove 1 hour 20 minutes each way yesterday to stock up on some wine for our wedding. Each bottle ended up being only USD $3.35.’

‘Glad I brought enough bubble wrap to make sure they arrived home safely,’ the groom said—posting a picture of a trunk filled with the cheap alcohol.

The post received more than 10,000 likes from people keen to try their own version of the trick.

‘Before I read the post, I thought you were participating in an epic adult trunk or treat,’ one person joked.

‘You are awesome! Never thought to bring bubble wrap to the liquor store,’ a second social media user exclaimed.

A different person shared that they used a similar brand on their wedding: ‘We used ALDI wine too, and everyone loved it! Another fun thing to do is make your own custom labels. We just printed ours out at home on scrapbooking paper. Everyone got a kick out of ours and didn’t even know it was ALDI wine.’

‘We used ALDI wine for favours. Everyone loved them!’ another user exclaimed.

Others wished they thought of the idea, with one writing, ‘We spent way too much on wine at our wedding. Should have just had good stuff for the toasts and served cheap wine the rest of the night when people were too wasted to care.'

One expressed their doubts on the technique: ‘How much did you spend on all the gas to drive 2 hrs 40 minutes?! You cannot tell me this is cheaper than sourcing wholesale locally. I refuse to believe it!’

Others quickly rebutted it on social media: ‘I believe it! When I was in college, the cheapest place to shop (Walmart at the time) was either 60 miles north or 45 miles south.’

Key Takeaways

Up there for thinking love it👍

We had a party on Saturday. Served cheap ALDI wine, pink and white Moscato. Also $5 spumante from Dan Murphys, as well as cask wine. Actually the light beer was the most expensive.
