This cheese wins prestigious award as the best in Australia!

Australia is renowned for its diverse and delectable range of dairy products, and the 26th Australian Grand Dairy Awards have just crowned a new champion that's sure to make cheese lovers across the nation swell with pride.

A creamery nestled in the picturesque town of Denmark, Western Australia, has taken home the prestigious title of Australia's best cheese.

The Dellendale Creamery was crowned the prestigious best cheese in the country at the 26th Australian Grand Dairy Awards.

Their Great Southern wash-rind cheese, or the Churchill Rd Raclette, celebrated for its aromatic sweetness and rich nutty flavour, stood out among 31 other competing kinds of cheese from around the country.

Chris Vogel, the director and cheesemaker at Dellendale Creamery, founded the business back in 2010.

Over a decade later, he reflects on the journey with a sense of accomplishment despite the unexpected challenges that come with running a creamery.

'This prestigious recognition reflects the knowledge we've built over 15 years and our small team's passion and endeavour in handcrafting, washing and tending to every wheel of cheese in our cellar,' Vogel said.

‘We’ve always believed in the quality and tradition behind our cheeses, and this award is a testament to that commitment.’

The Australian Grand Dairy Awards, held at the Melbourne Showgrounds, is not just a competition but a celebration of the country's rich dairy industry.

With 406 entries across 22 categories, the awards are a showcase of the finest products made with 100 per cent Australian milk.

International cheese judge Jill Allen was particularly impressed by the unique flavours and high-quality ‘wealth of products’ at this year's awards.

'This year, I've seen a lot of flavours that I haven't encountered before, especially from my past judging in the United States, which speaks to the characteristics and diversity of Australian dairy,' she remarked.

‘To have this accolade bestowed on a product is a nod to the quality and standard of a producer.’

‘Australian consumers can feel confident knowing that when they purchase a product with a blue and gold medal, that they’ll be experiencing the very best of Australian dairy.’

But Dellendale Creamery wasn’t the only one clinching prizes.

In a similar story, ALDI has also won 18 prizes at the Dairy Industry Association of Australia Awards for their quality cheese and dairy products.

The supermarket’s under $10 cheese products received significant recognition, which they credited to their commitment to quality and partnership with local suppliers. You can check the list of their award-winning products here.
