This $1 Tool From Bunnings Can Make Cleaning So Much Easier, Professional Cleaners Swear By It

Let’s face it: Keeping a spotless home isn't always an easy or affordable task. With residential cleaning service rates shooting through the roof, SDCers are looking for other ways to save money — and keep their household spotless — without breaking the bank.

And, as it turns out, this may be a lot simpler (and cheaper) than you would think!

Professional cleaners have access to a lot of fancy and pricey equipment, but it seems they've still taken note of the age-old rule of 'keep it simple', as one shared the 'cheap and cheerful' tool she swears by on social media.

Kacie Stevens, the co-founder of The Big Clean Co, revealed her top pick in a TikTok and Instagram video, which currently costs $1.20 on the Bunnings website.

The product of choice? The Pro Renovator 50mm Plastic Scraper, located in the painting aisle at most Bunnings stores.

Of course, if you're an experienced DIY enthusiast, you may know the scraper for its originally intended use of scraping off paint from walls - but, as Stephens points out, it's also excellent for cleaning 'sticky bits' that show up on floors, as the round head ensures it won't leave any scratches behind.

Kacie says in the video: 'These ones are really good for cleaning sticky bits off the floor, especially if you've got floorboards because they won't scratch.'

The professional cleaner also recommends the metal version of the scraper, pointing out that it is good for cleaning ovens, too!

She adds: 'They do come in metal too which are great for [cleaning] ovens.'

Like Stephens, fellow professional cleaner Spot On Cleaning Sydney agreed the plastic scraper is a great addition to our cleaning kits, noting from personal experience that they 'never know what they'll come across and the scraper comes in handy every time'. They then went on toshare some other favourites on their own TikTok channel.

The very first product they recommend is the Oates brush cleaning track buster, priced at $6.49 and used for loosening dirt in window tracks. Handy for car seats, too!

Next up was the Morgan Grey Sponge Scourer 10 pack for $2.99, to be followed by Oates scrub grout brushes for $4.79. For tougher cleaning jobs, their list also included the Mr Clean Tuffmates Pot And Pan Scrubs 10 pack for $8.90, and the Morgan 20 pack of microfibre cloths for $10.

Most of the items come in bulk packs, which not only makes them even cheaper but also means you don't have to stock up as quickly.

When looking for the right tools and supplies for your cleaning tasks, there are a few key points to keep in mind. From quality, to cost and even environmental considerations, here are some must-know tips:

Focus on quality first. Quality tools and supplies can last much longer and help you achieve a better result - so it's worth investing in the right ones. Consider specialised tools too - such as a specialised brush or cloth - that can provide an even better clean.

Think about cost per use. Instead of just looking at the upfront cost, consider how much each use will cost you. For example, are more expensive supplies and tools going to last you longer, so the cost for each use is lower? Buying in bulk can also help to bring down costs.

Check for environmental friendliness. Look for supplies and tools that are eco-friendly, so you can help protect the environment as you clean. This can include biodegradable sponges, natural cleaning ingredients and microfibre cloths which can reduce water waste.

Do your research. Different cleaning tasks require different supplies and tools, so make sure you know what you're looking for and do your research to find the best options. Reading reviews and talking to others in the industry can help you make an informed decision.

Safety first. Make sure the supplies and tools you choose are suitable for the task at hand. Protective gear, such as goggles and gloves, should also be worn when using certain cleaning products and tools.

So there you have it, members - if you want to save a little money and get the best clean possible, keep these tips and professional-recommended products in mind to ensure you get the right supplies and tools for the job.
