There's a festival in Spain where men jump over... Babies!
The Spanish culture involves a blend of Catholic and pagan rituals to represent the triumph of good over evil. So, once a year in June, red and yellow ‘devils’ run wild in a small village, cursing at people and playfully whipping them with a horsetail.
Then, they head for the babies born in the previous year, carefully placed on cushions, and jump over them! They believe that this ritual will absorb the ‘sins’ of babies, which then protects them from misfortune and sickness. It may look incredibly dangerous, but luckily, there have never been any reports of injuries or babies getting hurt in the process.
