There’s a secret behind your toothbrush's coloured bristles—what could it be?

As we age, we often become more set in our ways, especially when it comes to our daily routines.

Brushing our teeth is one of those habits we've been doing for so long we rarely give it a second thought.

But what if there's a little-known fact about our toothbrushes that could change how you've been brushing your teeth all these years?

A teacher named Jess shared a revelation in a video that has left thousands of internet users stunned.

She posed a question that many of us have probably never considered: 'Do you know why your toothbrush is different colours?'

The answer, it turns out, is surprisingly practical.

According to Jess, the different-coloured bristles on your toothbrush aren't just for show.

‘It is actually to help measure out your toothpaste,’ she said.

That's right, the coloured section of the bristles is designed to indicate the ideal amount of toothpaste for effective cleaning—which is only a pea-sized amount.

This simple yet effective tip has resonated with viewers, garnering over 46,000 views and several comments from people expressing amazement.

'Mind blown. I was today years old,' one commenter admitted.

Another added, 'I learnt a new thing today.'

For those who have been generous with their toothpaste application, one user humorously lamented, 'So, I have used 10,000 per cent more toothpaste than I needed all my life?!'

The advice aligned with findings from an American study published by The National Institute of Health in 2020.

The study confirmed that ‘a pea-sized amount’ of toothpaste, which is ‘close to 0.25 grams,’ is sufficient for effectively cleaning teeth.
