Therapeutic Goods Administration recalls popular home staple over fire concerns

Several home products have popped up over the years, promising a better atmosphere.

For grandparents out there, chances are they have encountered steam vaporisers that promise to soothe coughs and colds.

Before plugging it in for tonight’s bedtime routine, carers may want to read on for their safety.

The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) has issued an urgent product safety warning for the Euky Bear Warm Steam Vaporiser.

The recall affected vaporiser units with the model number EBSV2013.

‘If you do not turn off the device after steaming has stopped, the base of the blue heating module may overheat and start to disintegrate,’ the recall notice read.

This malfunction could produce smoke and fumes inside a home.

‘If the heating module finger is exposed, it could cause burns to users,’ the notice further explained.

Euky Bear’s parent company, Felton Grimwade & Bosisto’s Pty Ltd, initiated the recall over safety concerns.

However, this was not the first time the said vaporiser has come under scrutiny.

In 2023, several batches of the Euky Bear Warm Steam Vaporiser were recalled for the same issue.

Vaporisers and humidifiers have been a go-to for families dealing with colds, allergies, and dry winter air.

These products could help ease congestion, soothe irritated throats, and make sleeping more comfortable.

Euky Bear, an Australian-owned company, has built a reputation for making trusted products for homes.

Yet, as the recall showed, even trusted brands could have issues.

Those who have a Euky Bear Warm Steam Vaporiser at home may check the model number at the bottom part of the vaporiser.

The TGA advised product owners to stop using it and unplug it immediately.

Importantly, owners of the affected vaporiser should contact Felton Grimwade & Bosisto’s Pty Ltd directly to arrange a replacement.

For those wary of using a steam vaporiser, here are other ways to keep the air moist and comfortable:
  • Cool-mist humidifiers: These don’t use heat, so there’s less risk of burns.
  • Saline nasal sprays: Safe for all ages and can help relieve congestion.
  • Natural remedies: A bowl of water near a heater or a steamy shower can add moisture to the air.
This recall should be a timely reminder to always check for product recalls and safety warnings—especially for items used around children or seniors.
