The Twilight Zone star Earl Holliman passes away at 96

The entertainment world lost another bright star.

Actor Earl Holliman has passed away at the age of 96.

Holliman's career spanned over seven decades and left an indelible mark on Hollywood and the hearts of fans worldwide.

His niece, Theresa Mullins Harris, shared in a social media post that he had passed away 'after a short illness', leaving behind a legacy of cinematic and television excellence.

'He had a long, wonderful life. He loved hearing all the good things his fans had to say about him,' Ms Harris shared.

Earl Holliman's journey to stardom started at the age of five.

He harboured aspirations of becoming a movie star, a dream that would not only be realised but would exceed his expectations.

Holliman's breakout role came in 1957 with The Rain Maker, where he starred with Katharine Hepburn and Burt Lancaster.

His performance earned him a Supporting Actor Golden Globe, which cemented his place in Hollywood.

However, it was his role in the original version of The Twilight Zone that would etch his name in television history.

As the first actor to appear in the series, Earl Holliman helped set the stage for the eerie and thought-provoking tales that would become the series' hallmark.

With its signature blend of suspense and social commentary, his The Twilight Zone episode continues to resonate with audiences today.

Holliman's performance captured the imagination of viewers and set a high bar for the actors who would join the anthology.

Beyond The Twilight Zone, Holliman's career was rich and varied.

He also played Lt. Bill Crowley in the series Police Woman, where he co-starred with Angie Dickinson.

His work spanned over 50 films and nearly 50 television shows, showcasing his versatility and enduring appeal as an actor.

Holliman was remembered by his husband Craig Curtis as 'a gracious, kind confidant, a consummate host', and a man whose 'indefatigable positivity was evergreen'.

Curtis's tribute to Holliman painted a picture of a man who was as genuine as his on-screen personas.

His '1000-watt smile, an easy charm, and infectious goodwill' made him a joy to be around, and his 'deep sensitivity and mischievous sense of humour' were often hidden behind his stoic appearance.
