The Troubadour

A troubadour arrives at a bridge with three objects (a ball, a hat and a bowling pin) in his hand
The guardian of the bridge wars him: The bridge will only support your weight plus the weight of a maximum of two objects, and it is not possible to throw objects to the other side of the bridge.
The troubadour nevertheless manages to cross the bridge with his three objects in a single trip.
How does he do it?
I will post the answer below later.
