The three BEST products to disinfect this filthy everyday item - ‘It’s a little bacteria box!’
- Replies 0
The majority of us make it a point to keep the dirtiest areas at home free from harmful bacteria. But just because some of the items we use daily don’t have any visible grime or odour, doesn’t mean they aren’t breeding grounds for germs too.
If anything, COVID-19 has taught us this lesson quite well and yet, one everyday item has managed to slip through the cracks when it comes to regular sanitising. The culprit? Your phone.
If you haven’t been disinfecting it regularly, this is the sign to get into the habit ASAP! Think about it – we carry our phones everywhere we go and pick them up multiple times per day. Then, we hold it up to our faces during calls, unknowingly exposing ourselves to thousands of microbes daily. Yikes!
Fortunately, a professional cleaner shared the three best products she uses to effectively banish unwanted bacteria from her phone screen and speakers.

Kacie Stephens, who heads The Big Clean Co in Melbourne, described phones as a 'little bacteria box' that should be cleaned daily.
One recent study discovered that an average phone can carry up to ten times the amount of germs compared to a toilet seat.
In a TikTok video, Kacie demonstrated how to keep phones sanitised using isopropyl alcohol, a handheld brush from Bunnings Warehouse, and a microfibre cloth to clean the phone.
She used the tiny brush to rid the speakers of dirt and improve their sound quality. Then, a microfibre cloth was used to wipe the screen.

'If the speaker on your phone isn't working well, this is how you clean it. Put some isopropyl alcohol on a brush and scrub out all the holes.’ Kacie can be heard explaining in the clip.
'This is great if you wear makeup daily or if you're just a bit of a grub. While you're at it, sanitise that whole little bacteria box.'
To kill bacteria, cleaning experts recommend sanitising your phone daily.

The cleaning pro’s TikTok video was viewed over 21k times, with hundreds of comments from users who were floored by the tip.
'Omg, I needed this! Thank you!' one person said, while another teased: 'If you aren't wiping down your phone with isopropyl regularly, I'm calling the police.'
In a 2011 study conducted by researchers at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, faecal matter was found on one out of every six smartphones.
Although 95 per cent of the participants claimed to wash their hands with soap when possible, the researchers said that ‘92 per cent of phones had bacteria on them. Worryingly, 16 per cent harboured E. coli – a bacteria of a faecal origin.’
‘Harmful E. coli is associated with stomach upsets and has been implicated in serious cases of food poisoning such as the fatal O157 outbreak in Germany in June.’ they continued.
Just the thought of faecal matter on our phone screens made us shiver… What are your thoughts about this story? Be honest - do you disinfect your phone daily?
