The simple grocery hack every bargain hunter should know — items from Coles, Woolworths, and Aldi compared

The looming price hikes on grocery items is taking a toll on consumer behaviour, with many consistently hunting for the best deals to score groceries at slashed prices.

Last week, we reported about the money-saving hack Woolworths released for customers who are on the lookout for cheaper items — a move to relieve the increasing tension surrounding the “overnight price hike” on soft drinks and other grocery items.

But, for those who are looking for a hassle-free hack, did you know that there is an app that you can use to make your bargain hunting a lot easier?

Grocery comparison app Frugl has recently announced that it will be adding prices for items sold at Aldi, IGA, Drakes, and Foodland in their catalogue, along with the prices of products from Coles and Woolworths.

So, what exactly is Frugl and how does it work?

Frugl is an app dedicated to Aussies who are on the hunt for grocery items with the lowest price tag.

Previously, the app only took publicly available sales info from Coles and Woolworths and compiled them to show consumers which of the nearby supermarket stores offered the biggest discount for the items they were browsing.

Frugl is rapidly growing, gaining over 40,000 registered users by the end of December 2021.

Frugl Managing Director and CEO Sean Smith said that the app's growing community motivated them to continuously add updates and improve on the app's services, catering to the needs of frugal Aussies.

“With a growing demand for more comparison retailers to help Australian grocery buyers save more every week at the checkout, our team has worked incredibly hard to launch the latest version of our app. Frugl checks the catalogues for consumers so that they can save more on items at the stores at the best prices,” he said.

“This is just the beginning for our significant app upgrades for the Frugl community, and with the new capability to add unlimited retailers to our platform to enhance shopping options for users, we’re looking forward to making Frugl even bigger in 2022.”

“With over 5,200 grocery stores tracked on the app weekly and almost 60,000 products available to compare, Frugl is encouraging Australians to get behind its latest update and save more at the checkout."

What a brilliant idea and at such an oppotune time. Most of us, especially pensioners on a fixed income, are looking to get our regular shop at the lowest available price.

hi Sean, Thanks for your info
I find the Frugl app needs you to list an item, and then search to find who has the cheapest price.
I've been using a web extension called Smart Cart, where you make your shopping list on either Coles or Woolworths, then hit compare, and you'll see which brand has the cheapest total on your shopping list. AND the total savings from the two Brands.
By using SmartCart, i've saved heaps , try it........ joinsmartcart.com

WOW Sean, it’s a great app, much simpler than I was expecting! I will definitely find this very useful going forward and have already put my preferred and/or most expensive brands in the ‘favourites’ so I won’t miss out on the best deals. Thanks again!!

Do you have to check your shopping list before going out making your shop lust split between stores.
Wouldn't this create more running about to get to the stores and add to the cost of fuel? 🤔
