The Sandman
Commonly known as the Shaggin' Wagon!
It was the HZ Panel Van that became the Sandman (1974 - 1980).The Holden panel van was priced at A$6,076, with the Sandman option package an additional A$1,700. The Sandman will forever be associated with the thriving surf culture of the day and has since become an Aussie icon. In good condition I believe they can now cost over $100,000
Aka as Shaggin' Wagon. Shaggin’ wagons were painted in bright colours with carpeted cargo bay (some had a mattress), a sound system, a built in fridge and murals along the sides, painted with intricate details.
At the drive-in the vans would back into the parking bay and everybody knew that 'when the wagons a-rockin’ don’t come knockin'!"
