Remember these? A flood of seniors said they had a money box like this one in a Facebook post. ‘Great memories. My nan got me one as a child,’ a user said. ‘I felt so good putting my pennies in when I had some coming in my way,’ added another. Well, there isn’t a better time to be wise in handling money than in childhood. Did you have one too? How do you think it helped you when it came to saving money? Tell us below!

If you have other images or musings about the past, please post them here on our Yesterday’s Australia forum!

They were in the Commonwealth bank show bags, the R&I bank (now Bankwest) had small safes with a combination lock door moneybox also given away at the Royal show. If you go to a cashless society money boxes will be a thing of the past.

My Mum got us one of these as children we would be given 50 cents every week
and when it was full it would go in our
school bank account, unfortunately you
could not open these without destroying them, wow what great childhood memories, life was so much simpler then wasn’t it

As kids we could get money back out of almost any money box with a butter knife.
