The journey to bring Pretty Woman to the stage was no easy feat.

When Bryan Adams pitched the idea, Disney, co-owners of the film, were less than enthusiastic, telling him it would never happen.

But as we've learned, never say never in show business. Fast forward to 2023, and the musical has conquered Broadway and is embarking on an Australian season set to begin in Brisbane this October.

During his So Happy It Hurts tour, Adams, the Run To You star, reminisced about the seed of the idea in 2007 by a former dancer girlfriend.

Despite the initial rejection, a chance encounter with a Broadway director reignited the flame, and soon Adams and his longtime songwriting partner Jim Vallance were crafting tunes that would capture the essence of the beloved film.

Writing for a musical, as Adams discovered, is a different beast compared to penning rock hits.

'It was ever-changing, and there were moments of exasperation and moments of elation, and it was just the process of Broadway,' he said.

'Recently, I’ve been speaking to some people about doing another musical, and I got on the phone with these two producers in New Yor,k and the first thing they asked me was "Why would you want to do another musical?"'

It's a collaborative effort that he describes as 'songwriting by committee,' a process filled with frustration and triumph.

But the hard work paid off, and the musical's opening number, Welcome to Hollywood, was enough to win over the producers.

Pretty Woman: The Musical has since enjoyed a successful run, opening in Chicago in 2018 before moving to Broadway and then touring Europe, the UK, Ireland, and North America.
Its Australian debut at Brisbane's QPAC Lyric Theatre is highly anticipated, with plans to tour other cities following its premiere run.

The excitement for the musical's arrival is palpable, especially after a slight hiccup when Adams' Perth concert was cancelled due to a sewer fatberg threatening the plumbing.

'Last night’s concert could not proceed due to an external Perth Water Corporation issue, which was unable to be fixed in time,' Frontier Touring wrote.

'The issue, which impacted all of Wellington Street, meant that it was deemed unsafe for patrons to enter RAC Arena.'

Don't miss your chance to relive the romance, the laughter, and the transformative power of love, all set to the unforgettable anthems of Bryan Adams.

It's a production that promises to be 'Big. Huge.' and one that Australian audiences can't afford to miss.

WOW! WOW! Only watched this last night on TV.
One of my favorite movies that I can watch over and over and still love it.
Richard Gere could have something to do with that though 💕💓💓💓

Not to my liking I'm afraid....never thought I would be saying that, about not wanting to see a pretty woman.
I must be getting OLD. :ROFLMAO:

Have watched the movie same as with Matilda and all the other stage shows which follow the movies. Something I am not interested in doing is watching the so called story on stage - poor mans version of what may have been a good story.
If these writers are so gifted why are they not writing original stories/plays instead of re-hashing a movie? Play and song writers seem to be a dying breed unfortunately.

Would be near impossible to get tix anyway as per so many other events/concerts I'd love to see & just way too expensive, but living 4hrs from Melb has it's drawbacks, missing events like this is just one!
