The internet is shocked at this woman’s unconventional tea-brewing method: ‘This is a disgrace’

In the realm of culinary experimentation, there are those who push the boundaries of tradition and those who staunchly defend tried-and-true methods.

When it comes to making a cup of tea, a beverage steeped in tradition and ritual, particularly in the United Kingdom, any deviation from the norm can stir up quite a controversy.

This was precisely the case when a mum decided to brew her tea in a unique way.

Whitney Ainscough shared her unconventional tea-making method on social media, leaving viewers flabbergasted and, in some cases, downright outraged.

The video showed Ainscough placing a teabag in a mug, adding cold water and a bit of sugar, and then placing the mug in her air fryer.

To add to the shock, the air fryer still contained a few leftover chips from a previous meal.

After setting the timer for six minutes, the mum quickly glanced at her brewing concoction.

‘So, that's cooking. So, as you can tell, the colour is starting to come out,’ she said, as she recommended adding milk.

Once the timer reached six minutes, she was prepared to enjoy her piping hot tea, saying, ‘Absolutely banging. So all you [have] got to do is chuck the tea bag out and it's ready—voila.’

She also warned her viewers to exercise caution as the mug can be ‘quite hot’ afterwards.

Ainscough's method was met with a wave of criticism.

'This is a disgrace to us Brits,' one commenter said.

‘How dare you make it in an air fryer? That is actually diabolical.’

'Spilling milk in the air fryer was my final straw,' another replied.

One even offered to buy Ainscough a kettle, saying, ‘Six [minutes] for that. I’m good [with] two minutes for a kettle to boil for me, and it will be decent.’

While some were figuratively reduced to tears, others found humour in the video, joking about the leftover chips in the air fryer.

‘Looks like a chippy tea,’ one joked.

‘Love a cuppa with a hint of chip fat,’ another chimed.

‘Should have put dinner in at the same time, so it’s all ready together,’ a third jibbed.

Air fryers are specifically engineered to cook dry food, so it is not recommended to boil any liquids in your appliance.

Cooking methods such as poaching, braising, or boiling food are best performed on a stovetop.

Despite the controversy, Ainscough's video certainly captured the internet's attention, proving once again that when it comes to food and drink, everyone has their own unique tastes and methods.

Quicker still in a Microwave oven. Put the teabag in the cup of cold water & into the Microwave for 2 minutes, remove & add milk.
I've never liked tea but use same 2 mins for water for coffee. Why on earth would you put a mug of any sort in a dry frier? Doesn't make sense. Sounds outright dangerous

Seriously an airfryer!!!

Something I found out maybe two years ago is in the morning when you fill your jug/ kettle let the tap water run for at least 30 seconds before filling your kettle.

To make a perfect tea , run your teacup or teapot under hot water or warm 60 seconds in microwave before adding tea and water .

  1. Warm the pot. ...
  2. There is no fixed way about the amount of tea one should use, but the general rule is one teaspoon per person plus one “for the pot”. ...
  3. Use boiling water . ...
  4. Leave to steep for 3 – 5 minutes. ...
  5. Always use a tea strainer.
For a cup using teabag do the same as above but let steep For 2 to 3 minutes before adding milk.

I actually couldn't believe the difference by those simple steps.

Hubby has tea in the morning I have coffee
