The heart-warming act of NSW Ambulance paramedics for an 85-year-old

One moment, we’re caught up in the whirlwind of life’s daily routine; the next, we’re reminded of the fleetingness of it all.

At such times, it’s heartening to witness acts of kindness that restore faith in humanity, such as the one by NSW Ambulance paramedics for an 85-year-old woman, Mavis.

We’ve all had special places that are etched deep in our hearts, where fond memories were created and cherished throughout our lives. For Mavis, that place was the NSW coastline.

Specifically, it was the serene Clovelly Beach, known for its calm waters even when the rest of the coast is a smidge tumultuous.

Years ago, this beach was the backdrop to a love story akin to novels. It’s here that Mavis and her husband Ron met, starting a journey of love that spanned over 65 happily married years.

With Mavis being transferred to a palliative care unit, she fondly shared this cherished memory with the paramedics, Ray and Dave.

Ray and Dave, deeply moved by Mavis’s recollection, made a simple yet powerful decision.

In a heart-warming gesture, they detoured to Flynns Beach in Port Macquarie. Here, they paused their journey, enabling Mavis to feast her eyes one last time on the spectacle of the ocean meeting the sky.

As if the universe conspired to make Mavis's moment more special, a whale graced the trio with its presence, adding a layer of magic to this heartfelt narrative.

Ray recalls, 'She grabbed my hand once back in the van and kept thanking us. We really gelled with her.'

Sadly, Mavis passed away the very next day.

But she had her moment to gaze at the stunning vista, making a final, fond memory of a place that held a special spot in her heart.

Thankyou for sharing this touching story with us, Therese T. I’m so pleased that these 2 gentlemen could minister to a sweet older lady’s needs before her time on Earth ended.

This was news last week however it is very lovely!

A really special group of people , they really are our unsung heroes.

My daughter was looking at becoming a paramedic or a High school teacher.
While attending an open day a Paramedic talked her out of it.
He shared stories of attending car accidents with the deaths of children as well as so many hear breaking stories. In the end he told her if he was her do her other option.
She now says she is happy with her choice as she couldn't have dealt with the death of a child.

It really does take a special breed of people.

Amazing how Mavis got to see the ocean and the whale , hopefully this was what she was thinking of when she passed

This story made my day, so heart-warming and how nice to hear something good that's happened instead of negative stuff all the time.
The paramedics who did this for the 85 yo lady deserve a medal for kindness.
