The “BETTER-FOR-YOU” devilled eggs recipe that you should definitely try!

For those who don’t know, devilled eggs are appetizers that are often served on platters at parties.

They are known for their creamy, rich flavour that melts in your mouth with every bite.

Devilled eggs were an extremely popular hors d'oeuvre (yes, we know we could have said ‘side dish’, but we wanted to sound fancy) back in the 1960’s and 70’s, and have recently come back into fashion.

While it can't be denied that this delicious dish is mouthwatering and irresistible, devilled eggs are often made with ingredients that might not be healthy, particularly for those of us looking to cut down on our cholesterol intake.

So, if you're looking for a healthier recipe for devilled eggs that doesn’t skimp on taste, then we've got good news for you!

Instagram user Yumna, better known as Feel Good Foodie, has taken to social media to share her "better for you" recipe of the classic dish, revealing that she replaced mayonnaise with avocado to make the filling.

You read that right, folks! Mashed avocadoes have the same consistency as mayonnaise.

It should also be noted that avocadoes have fewer calories than mayonnaise and are a good source of healthy fat.

So, how does she prepare the healthier dish?

To start, Yumna peels six eggs before slicing them in half.

Next, she removes the yolks from each egg, separating them from the egg whites before setting them aside.

Yumna then scoops the flesh from half of a ripe avocado and places it into a bowl along with two tablespoons of coriander.

She also sprinkles two tablespoons of lime juice and half a teaspoon of salt over the mixture before adding the yolks from the boiled eggs.

Once all the filling ingredients are in the bowl, she starts mashing them using a fork until all of the ingredients are well-combined.

Yumna then transfers the mixture into a resealable bag before cutting its bottom corner.

Finally, she pipes the mixture into the hardboiled egg whites and garnishes them with diced tomatoes and a sprinkle of pepper and chilli powder before serving.

The result? Delicious devilled eggs that you will definitely love!

So devilled eggs are making a comeback? I haven't seen them for years!

What will be next - angels on horseback? Green and red mini pickled onions on toothpicks? Jellied/moulded salads?

I watch a lot of cooking programs during the day and Angels on horseback and the red and green pickled onions have started making a comeback but please I hope they spare us the jellied/moulded salads.

This sounds beautiful. I've always loved devilled eggs and carried on serving them at parties even when they were out of style. Everyone has always gushed over them. I have one little addition I would try. When I make guacamole I always add about a teaspoon of soy sauce to a couple of avocados. I think a splash of soy sauce in the egg yolk and avocado mix would give it just a bit extra umami.
