Telstra and 'Hi Mum' Scam Reports
Telstra email scam
We received this email from a member who kindly wanted to warn the rest of the SDC community.
'I recently received an Email stating it was Telstra, but the Email address and the way the name was showing Tel-(stra) rang alarm bells to me
It seems the email deleted itself when I tried to send it to my local MP
The Name was like this Tel-(stra)
It asked for me to login and update all my personal information including Credit card details.
I straight away noticed the E-mail address was from overseas.
Everyone with a Telstra A/C needs to be aware of this BOGUS E-mail'
You can find a list of active Telstra scams here.
Thank you to member David W. for sharing this with us.
Another member, Betty, was targeted by the 'Hi Mum' scam, you can read an example here.
'It happened to me this morning and it has left me quite shattered to think I nearly fell for it but as soon as they mentioned a loved member of my family your thoughts are to help, but luckily my granddaughter suggested it was a scam but I can see how some people can get caught. I thank my lucky stars that I was alerted.'
'I thought that I would be able to see if it were a scam but you are so intent on helping your family that common sense flies out the window.'
Thank you for bringing this to our attention!
