If you’ve been to IKEA, you probably have tasted its famous Swedish Meatballs. If you’re craving this dish, you don’t need to make a trip to IKEA, as you can make the popular dish at home with a little twist! It’s really easy to make and oh so yummy! You’ll definitely enjoy the combination of the meatballs and the creamy sauce!
Ingredients:
500g pork and beef mince
1 medium red onion, finely chopped
1 garlic clove, crushed
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
2 tbsp olive oil
1 egg
1/4 cup milk
1/4 cup dry bread crumbs
Salt to season
Fresh parsley to serve
Crusty bread to serve
Cream sauce:
3 tbsp. butter
2 tbsp. flour
2 cups beef broth
1/4 cup thickened cream
1 tsp Dijon mustard
2 hours before cooking:
1. In a large bowl, place beef and pork and mix with your fingers to break up any lumps. Then, add onion, garlic, nutmeg, breadcrumbs, and egg. Mix. Add milk and season.
2. Make small balls out of the mixture. Place on a clean plate, cover, and chill in the fridge for 2 hours. (This will help them keep their shape while cooking.)
Cooking directions:
1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius/160 degrees Celsius fan-forced. In a frying pan, heat the oil over medium heat. When the pan is hot, add the meatballs and brown on all sides.
2. Place the meatballs in an ovenproof dish and cover with foil—Bake for 30 minutes.
3. To make the cream, melt butter in a saucepan. Add flour and whisk for 2 minutes. Then pour in beef stock. Continue stirring until smooth. Add cream and Dijon. Bring to a boil, then simmer until sauce thickens.
4. Add meatballs back into the skillet and simmer for 10 minutes.
6. Serve over mashed potatoes, rice or pasta. Enjoy!
I guarantee you guys, that there’s a mouthful of flavour in every bite! Let us know if you give this one a go!
