Supermarket giant addresses an alarming complaint about unrefrigerated perishables

After Woolworths recently came under fire for allegedly failing to detect a fleshy-looking object in one of its bagged vegetables and allowing a pigeon to frolic in the bakery, the supermarket giant found itself in hot water again after a Twitter user raised an alarming concern.

The Melbourne shopper stumbled across boxes of perishable food on the floor left ‘untouched and unrefrigerated’ while shopping at the supermarket. He claimed that the perishable items were left unattended for nearly an hour.

‘The seafood was left for over 40 minutes as I did my shop. Before I left, it was still there untouched and unrefrigerated.’ he said.

‘This is a gross disregard for people's health. I hope they weren’t sold.’

In the video, he added: ‘This store is a disgrace.’

Earlier, the same customer claimed that he had allegedly witnessed food being left out on a trolley in the deli department after the counter had closed.

He included a photo featuring multiple trays of seafood–including salmon and scallops–displayed on the racks, uncovered.

‘The food was left out in the deli and the counter was closed. There is no staff to be seen and the aisles are a mess,’ the shopper detailed on a Twitter post.

‘This was 7:48 pm on a Sunday.’

The supermarket’s official Twitter account responded to the customer’s concern and said that it is currently investigating the matter.

‘Hi, thanks for reaching out and sharing the images. We're sorry to hear about your recent shopping experience with our Moorabbin store. We'll be sharing this with the local Store Management Team for their awareness and review.’ the Woolworths account wrote.

‘We have been in contact with the customer and are following the matter up with our store team urgently.’

‘We hope you see improvements on your next visit and please don't hesitate to reach out for anything else. Thanks.’

Woolworths customers are encouraged to raise any concerns about products or displays in-store with team members directly. Shoppers may also opt to submit a complaint form online.

This does not only happen at Woolworths. So he’s now going to switch Coles, don’t be surprised when the same thing happens there. 😉

I hate to think fridge items being left out.

Instead of him going around the shop taking pictures, and seeing this 40 minutes later why did he not go to the front of the shop , ask to speak to the manager and ask the manager is it a normal procedure to leave fridge items out that long.

As for the deli counter the food is in a refrigerator and just maybe it is only closed for a short time
Did he think maybe they were under staffed and the person was on a break

Too many people are taking photos and putting up on social media not knowing or not questioning what they are actually taking pictures off.

What's that saying ?

"Oh yeh there are two sides to every story "

So many people are in their element trying to put people down when they see a situation they know zilch about. They think they know everything that is out of their league. We only have 2 hands, 2 ears, 2 eyes & one mouth. Why not think of it as a gift that we cannot double up on? Just remember we cannot take back what we say, especially when words expressed in criticism become destructive. If you think you are seeing right, you had better be sure before you accuse these workers of wrong doing. There is always two sides in any argument. You do not work there. You have a right to have an opinion but think before you leap into any situation, even though what you are seeing is fact. There is a reason for everything that happens. Many get carried away & think they know everything. It is sad because they don't. "Reason" is a strong word but it is meant to be strong as a leveler in life. Something leads you on to believe you are witnessing something outrageous before you simply stop & THINK of another side of the situation that is entirely different. Some are quick learners amongst us, others just "observe" a situation & form their own opinion without venom. What satisfaction does one acquire in seeing a wrong that can easily end up right by being polite, civil & encouraging? Plenty.
