Sunbeam stand mixer
Oh the joy we felt when mum finally got her first electric sunbeam stand mixer in the late 1960s. We couldn’t wait to do some baking and try it out. For the first few weeks we made a cake every day, there were 12 of us in the family so we could eat a cake a day. We all took turns using the mixer, even the boys were keen to have a go. I remember one brother tried to scrap down the bowl with a metal spoon, it got caught in the beater part, cake mix flew everywhere. Luckily mum was close by and turned the mix master off before any damage occurred to the beaters. I still have a sunbeam stand mixer, a more modern one. i don’t use it much as have a hand held mixer which is much easier to grab and use. I have a set of the original bowls that came with the older shape mixer, that was my first one. I kept the bowls when it stopped working. My grandkids love using my mixer, we use it most times they visit. I also still have the old hand held rotary beater which they love to have a go at using. Usually becomes too hard to mix up the cakes etc for them so we get out the mix master. When I suggest using the electric hand held mixer they ask to use the mixmaster as they can use a hand held one anytime, using my mixmaster is a special treat for them.
