Star Wars and Gremlins voice actor Mark Dodson passes away at 64

It's a sombre day in the realms of both space operas and horror flicks—Mark Dodson, the voice actor behind some of the most iconic characters in cinema, has passed away at the age of 64.

Fans of both the Star Wars franchise and classic movies alike are mourning the loss of a man who, through his craft, became an integral part of their beloved films.

With a career stretching over four decades, Dodson's voice acting saw him embody characters that would become cult favourites.

His untimely passing—due to a heart attack while in Evansville, Indiana—was confirmed by his daughter as he had been gearing up to meet fans at Horror Con.

It was also announced by talent promoter Stellar Appearances on social media.

‘Mark Dodson died on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at the age of 64 years old,’ their statement read.

‘Mark worked on dozens of movies, video games, commercials and advertisements adding his unique voice and sound to each character and script he touched.’

‘Mark leaves behind a wonderful family, close friends, and adoring fans around the world,’ they continued. ‘The family asks for privacy during this difficult time.’

Dodson delivered a memorable performance as Salacious B. Crumb, the Kowakian monkey-lizard perched by Jabba the Hutt's side in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi (1983).

He captured the hearts of viewers with his haunting vocal tones that blended together to create the essence of an unforgettable character.

Dodson's talents also breathed life into the mischievously chaotic Mogwai in 1984's Gremlins, a film that blended comedy, horror, and fantasy to deliver a tale that has lingered in pop culture consciousness.

Fans across generations have mimicked these characters, a testament to Dodson's mastery of his art and the infectious nature of the personalities he crafted.

Adoring fans have flooded social media platforms since learning of Dodson's passing.

A social media user wrote, ‘Thank you for everything Mark, you are missed.’

‘Our thoughts go out to his family and friends in this difficult time. May the Force be with you Mark, always,’ another posted.

‘Heartbreaking. Thank you for all the beloved times from my childhood, Mark Dodson,’ a fan said.

Fellow voice actor Kirk Thatcher, who worked with him on Gremlins 2, expressed his grief on social media by sharing a video:
