Star Trek star Patti Yasutake passes away at 70

The entertainment world is mourning the loss of a beloved figure, Patti Yasutake, who has passed away at the age of 70.

Yasutake, known for her role as nurse Alyssa Ogawa in the iconic Star Trek: The Next Generation series, as well as the films Star Trek: Generations and Star Trek: First Contact, left an indelible mark on the franchise and its fans.



According to the publication Deadline, she died on Monday, 5 August, after a long battle with cancer.

She graced the screen in the Netflix cult favourite Beef and made memorable appearances in popular television series such as TJ Hooker and Boston Legal.

Born and raised in the Los Angeles area, specifically Gardena and Inglewood, Yasutake's passion for acting was nurtured through her studies, culminating in an honours degree in theatre from the University of California Los Angeles.

Her journey into the world of acting led to her major film debut in Ron Howard’s 1986 comedy Gung Ho, where she portrayed a Japanese wife navigating the complexities of American society.



Yasutake's contributions to film were recognised with accolades, including an Independent Spirit Award for her performance in the 1988 movie The Wash.

Her resume also boasts roles in films such as Drop Dead Gorgeous, Blind Spot, and Galveston, showcasing her range and dedication to her craft.

Her manager, Kyle Fritz, who had the privilege of working with Yasutake for over 30 years, remembered her fondly, 'Patti was my first client when I began over 30 years ago.’

‘We enjoyed every day we got to work together, and I will miss her spirit, talent and tenacity, but most of all her friendship.'



Patti Yasutake's legacy is not only etched in the stars of the Star Trek galaxy but also in the hearts of those who knew her and those who were moved by her performances.
